Smokers (wood pellet) and fire risk

Hi - moved to the island last fall and just settling in. I used to be a big smoker (brisket, ribs, etc..) and sold my smoker before coming here.

With the heightened fire risk on the island (and generally in this part of the world), is there a consensus or regulations about the use of wood-pellet smokers?

You can buy them here for sure so they aren’t outlawed, but I just want to be extra cautious.

Level Bolt w/Drive-in Collar (no rectangular faceplate)

Hi,

I have a weiser deadbolt with a drive-in collar, i.e.: no rectangular faceplate. Can I still use the level bolt with this? It appears I can remove the attached faceplate of the bolt with a t4 torx bit but what's left isn't exactly round as the bolt still has some metal protusions.

Thoughts? Has anyone done this already?

BC Pharmacare Your Voice Survey - Be Part of the Coverage Decision Process [DEADLINE JUNE 23]

Hello!

If you are are a resident of British Columbia there is an opportunity to participate in BC's review process as they decide whether or not to provide coverage for tirzepatide as a treatment for chronic weight management.

This is a limited time chance to provide input into the coverage decision process. Survey deadline is June 23 and you can complete as a patient, a caregiver, or representing a group of BC patients. (My guess is the latter is probably for Medical Group / Practices.)

Main Survey Web Page is here. You can select tirzepatide from the list.

A significant part of disappointment when operating (as a patient) within the IslandHealth system is the total information asymmetry at play - IslandHealth knows (a lot?) about you, but you don't have any good ways to know that same information.

Where is there an intake or feedback mechanism for improving this? The online access portal lags severely in capabilities compared to those of many other personal health management portals (I'm speaking mostly of portals like mychart common in the USA or even PocketHealth in Ontario).

To wit, if IslandHealth is reading, please consider the following:

  • information within the portal is hit-or-miss whether or not it's going to show up after an interaction. I have labs and an ultrasound report from a hospitalization but no clinical notes. I have no records from visiting UPCCs or Urgent Care clinics within the IslandHealth system. I have no records for imaging done outside of the hospital (i.e.: West Coast Imaging)

  • There's no status for pending referrals. As it takes a while for referrals to go through the system, it's maddening that there's no way to check that your referral is even in (or still in) the system. If you make someone wait to see a specialist, at least have a mechanism to confirm they are still in the triage queue

  • Information is needlessly kept outside of the system. Links to current medications should just be imported and available from a "single pane of glass" instead of having to log separately into the BC Health Gateway

I subscribe to the opinion that more information and transparency is better. As a patient, I should be able to see everything the doctor or clinic can see about me. For example, I know they can see the status of referrals because I end up calling them to get current information, which absent the informaiton in the portal, is an administrative drain I think we'd all rather do without.

What else should IslandHealth prioritize fixing or enhancing in their self-service portal system?
