Recommendations for trainers specialising in hyper-mobility and/or asymmetry?

I have a connective tissue disorder which requires an adaptive approach to strength training. I have lots of asymmetries and compensatory patterns.

I’d like to work with someone who really understands excessive hypermobility and the compensations that can accompany it. I’ve tried a few trainers, and have come out of every session in pain/injured. I’ve been in the gym for 7 years, so I have a good understanding of strength training, form etc, but I need someone to support with asymmetries and dysfunctional movement patterns.

I’ve seen a fair few physios too. Broadly helpful for managing injuries, but not for progressing in lifting.

Recommendations welcome!

Strength Training Induced Stress?

Anyone familiar with strength-training causing prolonged, physiological stress after training?

I’ve had this for like 6 years now, and I’ve never met anyone who has the same reaction. I understand overtraining etc, but I’ve moved to lifting like 5-10kg weights (less than 10% of what I can actually lift), doing 3-4 exercises per session, 2-3 days a week.

I get terrible brain-fog, anxiety, I can’t focus or sleep.

I have hypermobility, which I think could be a factor?

Just curious to know if anyone also has this experience to this extent.

It’s really frustrating because I’ve been in the gym for 6 years and have made no progress. I cant just work through it because it affects my job and sleep.

Facemask - Worth It?

I’m about to start marpe with a clinic in London. They’ve done a good number of adult cases and I trust them as a provider.

I didn’t think there were any clinics in the auk that offered face masks, but I can see now there’s a lesser known clinic that does. Is it worth switching treatment for that reason alone? Or can I do face mask separately some how?

TIA

Facemask - UK Providers?

Hello! Anyone know if any marpe providers in the uk offer a facemask, or if there’s any way I can look into this otherwise? I’ve been for a few consultations and am looking to go forward with a clinic in London.

How long does appetite increase continue after stopping?

I took a one off 3.75mg a few days ago and didn’t notice an appetite increase. However, 3 days later, I’m ravenous! Can anyone share their experience?

Looking to take mirtazapine as and when for sleep to reduce risk of weight gain is why I’m asking.

Metabolism / TDEE Changes?

For those who are tracking calories to maintain weight - are your maintenance calories the same on mirtazapine as without?

I have an unusually high metabolism (like 2400kcal for a mediumly active woman with barely any muscle mass)

I gained 20kg in 2 months last time I was on mirtazapine, but I wasn’t counting calories then. I’m also on 3.75mg vs 7mg before

I know that mirtazapine supposedly only affects appetite, not metabolism, but curious to know whether secondary impacts on movement, NEAT etc might make a difference!

I know I can track dynamically, just curious and cautious

1.75mg / 3.5mg mirtazapine - impact on sleep and appetite?

Hello! I previously took 15mg-7mg of mirtazapine for sleep. I slept really well but gained almost 20kg in two months 😬 so I tapered off.

I’m currently off work due to a severe flare up of insomnia, and am exploring adding 7mg of mirtazapine with my existing 50mg daridorexant dose for the short term so I can get back to work.

Having gained so much weight before, I’m really conscious of that happening again. I don’t want to be on mirtazapine long term for sure. However, I can only take so much time off work and I do ideally need a solution!

That said, please could people share their experiences of really low doses - 1.75mg and 3.5mg in respect to sleep and appetite?

Thank you 🙏

Daridorexant alongside other medications?

I’ve been taken daridorexant for a while and it generally works pretty well for me. However, I have flare ups of more severe insomnia (1-3 hours a night for months on end) and have had this the past couple months.

As I’ve already done CBT-I etc, my sleep doctor suggested I could do a short term run of mirtazapine alongside daridorexant to help with function at work. I previously took mirtazapine and it worked well for sleep, but I discontinued due to severe weight gain (+20kg in 2 months)

As much as I need my sleep to improve for work, I’m really nervous about the weight gain. Has anyone had success combining daridorexant with other medications, even in the short term?

Is this reasonable pricing for the UK? Any recommendations for elsewhere? Why are braces so much more than MARPE?

The consultation is £150 ($200), and if you decide to proceed, records are £100 ($133).

The MARPE cost ranges from £2000–£2400 ($2,670–$3,204) on a case-by-case basis.

This does not include the orthodontic treatment for alignment afterwards, which depends on the type of appliance. We offer fixed metal train track braces, fixed ceramic train track braces, and clear aligners. These range from £4500 to £7000 ($6,008–$9,345) depending on complexity, severity, appliance time, etc.

Might MARPE have a negative aesthetic outcome?

Hey! I’m looking at getting marpe for more tongue space, to address crowding, and to have a wider smile.

It seems that the effects on facial appearance I quite varied - I’m worried the effect could be negative. What changes could I expect to see?

I’m aware I have facial asymmetry, so conscious that could be made worse.

What difference does the providers approach make? Are there any specific questions I should ask?
