Breakfast of Champions was Horribly Amazing

Yesterday I finished Breakfast of Champions ..after dropping it two times and than 5 months of trying to get through it.

It was a very hard read for me, I think I enjoyed the first 10 ish chapters but I could not understand what and why Vonneguts ramble fest were longer than they’d ever been, I thought this book was like cats cradles twin brother, super witty and an adventure.

it definitely made my jaw drop. it WAS insane.

But, by the last page, I think I understood it all. Vonnegut wrote this book for himself and its clear as day the way he started it “This is a 50th birthday gift to myself,,,, I’m going to empty my mind so it’s as clear as it was when i was born ..”

And that he did. He manages to write in one of his most infamous characters who is the personification of his insecurities as a reflection of his state at the moment. Kilgore in this book puts himself out there to show to everyone that he’s a nobody special, Vonnegut writes this book of insanity and over exaggeration to show us a piece of his mind, in that same way.

-He tells us the reason why some people think one’s life means more than others and why it’s something so stupid to think . Not just by the movie metaphor but by Rabo’s explanation of bands of light.

-Vonnegut overuses obscenities in every form just to show us how easy it is to hear it once and find it shocking and than by the end of the book have it be casual, a reminder that its NOT normal. Along with this, Its also putting emphasis that these are things that we find ourselves as a society constantly thinking about and finding to be important but WHY? He frames it in comedy, literally points a finger and laughs. We are invited to laugh right by him, we can see it. ( Constant Talk about mens penis size, The N word \[ethnicity\] , Women’s body proportion, homosexuality , being attractive or rich)

So though it was a mess to get through and an extremely hard read, I give it credit and so much appreciation. I think its quite a great book, not my flavor of Vonnegut, but still an amazing read.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS UNDERSTOOD FROM BOC AND LMK WHAT I MISSED OUT !
and I apologize if this analysis is a little rough or if i missed anything or perhaps misinterpreted anything but yea!

How did Deftones manage to make “Briana” from Eros sound more tragic than “Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event”

I love the slow songs that Deftones has put out and I remember upon listening to AOAUE and being overtaken by just a sense of sadness (but the good kind everyone needs to feel) and it was genuinely so amazing— but when Eros came out and I heard Briana——- OH MY GOD. I literally, it’s hurt is unmatched, lyrics aside I don’t know how it carries such a heavy tone . It just feels “over” so awesome. So beautiful 10/10

Dwayne Hoover means so much to me

I'm not done with the book just yet! I'm on chapter 11.

But honestly, correct me if I am wrong but,

Dwayne Hoover had, like, a mental episode, right? That's what we are getting at? Because at the start of the book KV uses the iodine to combat goiter's (I think..?) and then compares to how people just needed medication in order to be completly okay, but that at that time we didn't exactly know that.

So if this is the case for Dwayne, it means so much to me. As someone who has pretty much raw dogged through their mental illness for their entire life and didn't know what was happening up until recently, to see that represented in Dwayne, and it be this thing of "Oh, it was sudden" / "where were the signs" / " But he was never like this"/ is so effing special. It's the fact that he is this charming, reliable person, too--- and now because of this, he's not.

The overall explanation that everyone at the end of the book HATES dwayne, and that everyone sees Trout as a hero (Trout, you know, the guy who will make up a false truth through story that everyone will come to believe : WHICH I ALSO MIGHT ADD LOWKEY SOUNDS LIKE BOKONON?? LIKE A NOD TO IT?? I MIGHT BE REACHING??) reminds me of how much people villanize those with mental health struggles.

I will remind everyone again that I am on the 11th chapter--- so I could be entirely wrong about this lmao

Hi! ENFP here!!!! It is so weird that I am making this post, but I genuinely don't know who else to ask. Nobody I know understands MBTI like this. My best friend is an ISTJ, and she is the CATS PAJAMAS!!!! I like the way she thinks about things and sees the world from this perspective; I would've never dreamed of it. It feels like standing on top of. A building and looking down on the world, usually, I just look out my window. I don't understand her sometimes, but we have so many common interests and have been friends for like 10 years or something... I admire her tough spirit, too! I also think it should be noted that I often find ISTJs are always mischaracterized as serious, but holy shit.. they are anything BUT. Like, yes, they lock in. They take certain things seriously, but if you ever really get to know one, you'd come to figure out that they are actually really playful, just sort of practical. Many times, I have been so lucky to be the person my ISTJ leans on; it is such a privilege. I think she is the love of my life, soulmate, everything. My boyfriend understands that, I'm sure. HAHA. In a real way, though, I couldn't imagine myself choosing a different best friend. She is very, very cool, and we are just these two alternative freaks and so odd, it's the best thing in the world. Growing pains have been tough but everything is worth it. I urge everyone to find an ISTJ and cherish them. The most loyal, kind, understanding people you may ever come across

That is all, let me know your experience with ISTJ's or if you have any questions about my ISTJ best friend and me!!
