Mpanatigghi di Modica 🍫🥩🍪

Mpanatigghi are these unusual biscuits from Modica, shaped like empandillas and filled with a mixture of dark chocolate, minced meat, sugar, cinnamon and lemon zest.

The crust is light and crumbly and the filling sweet and spiced, like a rich medjool date paste.

Modica, a lovely baroque Sicilian city, is famous for its chocolate. I tried these at Antica Dolceria Bonajuto, the oldest chocolate factory in Sicily, founded in 1880.

Here’s their recipe, for the curious bakers like me:

Pane e panelle in Trapani - Sicily

Panelle are Sicilian chickpea fritters, commonly served in a bread roll with a sprinkle of salt/pepper and a squeeze of lemon. Although associated with Palermo, the best I’ve ever had were in Trapani.

Complimented twice this week! 🌸

I was complimented twice this week, which is a rare occurrence.

On Monday, while boarding a plane, a woman in front of me asked about my scent. I was wearing Boucheron Quatre. This morning, my doctor’s assistant complimented my perfume and asked me to take a photo of the bottle, I was wearing Zara x Jo Malone Fashionably London Elixir. Both are reasonably priced and perfect for summer 🌸

Which perfume got you a compliment recently?

Shift change because of lazy coworkers

I WFH as a corporate travel agent, 4 days on from 23:00 to 09:00, followed by 4 days off. This is my second year at this company. In my previous job, I worked 5 days on, 2 days off from 22:00 to 06:00, which was brutal. But I did that for 4 years without ever getting sick.

Surprisingly, I’m having far more health issues now. I was recently diagnosed with muscle tension dysphonia, LPR, hiatal hernia, and other conditions that have been aggravated or directly caused by stress.

While I genuinely love my job and enjoy working night shifts, my current colleagues (there are only two of them) are a nightmare to work with. They are extremely lazy and often play dumb to justify their lack of competence and knowledge. They constantly hang up on clients, pretend to have technical issues, and can spend an hour on a case that should take less than 15 minutes to resolve.

Because of repeated negative client feedback about them, management decided they should never work alone. Meanwhile, I am required to work at least two nights solo every rotation because I am considered “efficient and well-liked by customers.” As a result, my workload is effectively doubled, which leaves me under constant stress, especially during nights with major flight cancellations or severe weather. I feel somehow punished for working hard while they keep getting a free pass.

I am forced to request a shift change to join the evening shift - 4 days per week 17:00 to 01:00 and only 2 days off but serious and professional colleagues. I am seriously so mad about It because I will miss getting 12 days off with 4 days of PTO.

Have you ever dealt with similar issues at work? Does stress affect your health more when working nights?

I was very happy to see a woman accept my ride this afternoon, as it’s not very common to see women driving VTCs where I live.

I am also a woman, I smell good, I don’t smoke or drink, I never make drivers wait and I spend most of my rides reading.

I was polite as usual, said hi and thank you, closed the door carefully and left a nice tip like I always do although tipping isn’t common here either. Still my rating dropped from 5.00 to 4.98 afterward 😒
