Fanart of the final showdown manga panel
The most impactful panel of the whole volume. Through my insight.
The journey from a psychological stand point.
Clair obscur: Expedition 33 is one or those generational games which is not just a mere game but is a piece of literature which expand way beyond.
For a lot of such games I usually watch a YouTube walk through, but for this I'll spend my last penny if I have to, to buy and genuinely play and appreciate the game.
Beside the extraordinary music, the world building, the artistic approach, the detail to craft and the lore behind every aspect of the game it's rather a person's own journey through grief.
This may sound obvious, yet the extent of our human grief is limited heavily by the reality of the world and the ever-moving time, and therefore none of us get to spend enough time and dwell in it. And sometimes that's all there is left of that person, the grief.
The game successfully creates this world where the expression of sorrow rules over the sand of time and the results of which are also evident.
RENOIR : is the portrayal of reality and ALINE is the imagery of lingering sorrow. There fight is the symbol of the war we all have had once in our subconscious, one tried to justify moving on and healing and the other justifies grieving beyond a point of self harm. Yet this war is non conclusive, because both are just and unjust at the same time.
CLEA: on the other hand shows the version of us which forcefully suppresses the past and decides to never dwell in it, as a result she never experienced the essence of Verso's soul and " never let the canvas affect her". This is also evident from the fact that she keeps repainting her version within the canvas till a point it's nothing more than a mangled form of emotions turned hostile.
Verso or his soul is the pov which all of us ignore irl. We never ponder on what the departed would have wanted. Till a point Verso wanted to stay alive, yet burdened by the truth of the situation, he finally grows tired of being trapped at the centre of all and wants the ascend. His true soul, the "Remnants" are too tired to paint.
ALICIA/MAELLE is us( the person in grief) traversing thru the different season of emotions. At the beginning she wanted to end the suffering, trying to avoid the grief all together and moving on with life while she hadn't dwelled deep into the sorrow, but later her hesitance to stay depicts the yearning we have for those who left us.
SIMON and the rest even if they are fictional they do depict a desperate life wasted in the fight of the Dessendre family and depicts the consequences of such extravagant expression of grief from a third party perspective. This is exaggeration of real life yet that's the beauty of the game.
Also in general; from a psychological standpoint this is what the mind of a person going through grief looks like depicted in the most beautiful and artistic way possible.
All I wish is that there is a movie depiction to this game. For those who come after...
