Anyone have sargassum updates for Caye Caulker and hotel thoughts

Will be in Caye Caulker the first week of September. I'll looking to stay on the west side to avoid sargassum.

Here are some places that we are considering but open to anything

Iguana Reef - free bike use, continental breakfast

Barefoot Caye Caulker

Caye Condos by Barefoot

Caye Hotel Caye Caulker

3 full days in Belize with 2 days of travel

My wife and I are making a quick trip in early September.  I am in the planning stages and thinking about splitting the trip between Caye Caulker and Ambergris.  My wife is more of a lay out and “catch some sun”, whereas I am more of the let’s go do something walking around and see new things.  We both enjoy going out to eat and having drinks but not all night go crazy outing.

Does this seem reasonable? We’ll probably snorkel one day and the other days just hang out, catch some sun, eat and have some beverages.

  • Day 1 - arrive at noon and plan to take the water shuttle to Caye Caulker
  • Day 2 - Caye Caulker
  • Day 3 – Leave Caye Caulker for Ambergris
  • Day 4 – Ambergris
  • Day 5 – depart Ambergris around 10 am and catch a 2pm flight.  Should we take the water shuttle or book the quick flight.

 A few other questions.

Would it be better to stay in Ambergris Day 1-2 and in Caye Caulker Day 3-4.  This way the water shuttle is quicker to Belize City.

Which company do you recommend going from the airport to the water taxi? I'm up for the adventure of taking a bus (not sure if my wife is). Since it's a quick trip, we are traveling light. Probably a backpack and one carryon roller bag.

Another important question, do the “bars-restaurants” and hotels have ESPN?  Gotta watch college football.  If not, I can live without college football for one weekend.

Lodging.

I thought about the Marriot Alaia or the Hilton in Ambergris and some local place in Caye Caulker. Any recommendations? I see some places offer free use of bikes, what about golf carts?

I plan to buy bottled water and snacks while we are there.  Any recommendations?  My wife prefers wine over beer and of course some good cocktails.  I’ll take the local beer and drinks.
