This is probably the most bizarre and hyper compulsion I've ever felt. I struggle with "light OCD," which manifests mostly in being a neat-freak and rather tidy. But it can also impact my thoughts with rumination, circling past mistakes, and anxiety about my lack of control for the future.

For more years than I want to admit, I've been secretly sexting strangers during my work day. It ramped up since covid during the WFH era, and since I still WFH, it still comes and goes in waves.

Thing is, I'm not unaware of my behavior at any stage. It's like a switch flicks in my brain and I just don't care. I feel the trigger coming; I begin a sexting session knowing full-well it's going to waste a lot of my productive time during work; and knowing even more that I will feel like absolute sh*t when the high wears off. And yet... I do it anyway.

The dopamine rush is just so high.

Yesterday I even blew past all my blockers that should have worked. I use the Brick app to block content on my phone; I even locked my phone itself into a digitally timed lockbox so I couldn't use it. I had no history of spending all day typing on the computer to sext with strangers, so I thought I would not be able to act out, even if tempted.

Nope. Spent all afternoon using the computer to sext instead.

I found myself feeling quite sick by the end of a session yesterday because someone started pushing the conversation toward 'taboo' kinks that left me very uncomfortable... I'll just leave it at that. I even told him such and blocked him for it. But still, it upsets me that I waste so much time participating in potentially risky conversations with people like that.

And I say 'him.' During our chats, we (both men) were catfishing each other as attractive women. I know HE was not a woman for real, because well, I know the signs. I know the game. I play it myself. (insert Obi-wan or Willam Defoe meme)

It's such an insane place to be as adult male who by all metrics is successful in society.

Catfishing other catfishers, both of us knowing we're full of sh*t, yet both getting off on the role-play fantasy of it all.

It's both hilarious and sick.

I almost never talk to genuine women online because - sorry to stereotype - but most women don't engage in this behavior. They don't NEED to for attention, first and foremost. But they also just don't have that sickness that men have. Sure, some do. But 99% of the "women" one talks to online are men. And many men, like myself, we know this. But we let the fantasy replace reality in our minds and that can lead to a long edging and sexting session.

It's just truly insane behavior to me at my age. I NEED to stop. I don't dabble in anything illegal, but it's just such an absolute waste of time. Even if I never get "caught," I'm still wasting so much time slow burning my life to death.
