Labrum tear

To anyone who had labrum repair surgery for an anterior tear, how was it? I am really nervous as it is my first surgery and the nerve block really scares me. Also, how long was it until you could write? I am still in school and am worried about how much I am going to have to miss.

Struggling with major

I’m a rising senior in high school and my high school career has been based on a marketing path. I have completed the marketing pathway (3 classes), am VP of Deca, help run my schools sports social media, and have an internship next fall for my county’s athletics social media. However, after much thought I’ve realized that I don’t really see myself doing marketing in the future. But since I’ve done so much marketing related activities I feel like I will have a better chance of getting into college when majoring in marketing because my application would be more cohesive. Can I still change my mind? Help!

Essay idea help

I am going to list a few random ideas that have come to mind as I’ve began brainstorming. Let me know which ones could work and which ones I should avoid!

  1. I have a double name and I used to be super insecure about it because I had to correct people when they would refer to me as just the first name. I then realized that my name is literally just something to differentiate me from my peers and how I treat others is how I’m judged.
  2. My sister struggled a lot mentally throughout when I was in middle school and I became sort of the “glass child”. I didn’t want anyone in my life to be aware that she was sent to a hospital and I felt selfish for being upset with her and my parents. I felt invisible to them and my peers because I didn’t open up to them. I’m not sure how I would explain how this one shaped me today
  3. I’ve always looked younger than I am. I had my braces until this summer (before senior year) and I’ve never had a romantic relationship. I felt left out when my friends became hard partiers and avid daters because I had nothing to add to the conversation. I didn’t even really have interest in these activities, I just wanted to fit in. I guess I could then talk about how I realized that if people judge me based on this they don’t really know me. Not sure.
  4. I keep a huge box of letters and notes in my closet ranging from my fifth grade graduation to my 16th birthday. I also have hundreds of sticky notes that my dad would leave on my pillow each time he left town. I could maybe talk about how holding onto and savoring relationships is important while they’re still there? I also could tie in my middle school friends who after I switched schools I regrettably completely cut off.
  5. Through elementary I would silently cry in my bed at night about my parents dying when they were sleeping comfortably in the room next door. I now realize this was likely a product of anxiety, but because my parents had me when they were both over 40, I am hyper aware of the ticking clock on their lives. Similar to the last one, I could talk about savoring relationships.

Please help! I feel like I have good situations to write about but I’m not sure how to shape it into describing how they changed me and who I am today.

Where should I apply?

Help! I need realistic colleges to apply to given these stats (variation of reach, target, and safety). Ideally I want to stay in the SE, but would be willing to go anywhere east of the Mississippi. Vanderbilt is my dream school but I realize it is a massive reach.

Demographics: Female, white, Georgia, large public high school, long family legacy at Princeton (not much hope for me lol)

Intended Major(s): Maybe international relations, not set on anything though.

ACT/SAT/SAT II: Highest on the SAT is a 1400, taking again in August and September with tutoring prep so hoping for a 1480+

UW/W GPA and Rank: UW: 3.96, W: 4.5, school doesn’t do ranks but I’m in the top 10%

Coursework: 13 AP classes by the time I graduate
AP World: 4
AP Precalc: 5
AP Human: 4
Other scores not received yet

Awards: Georgia merit scholar award (top 10% of class), ap scholar with distinction (after this year)

Extracurriculars:
varsity lacrosse 4 years
Volunteer swim coach (150+ hours)
200+ total volunteer hours
County sports marketing internship
Deca for 4 years (officer for 2, VP for 1)
NHS member for 2 years
Club lacrosse for 3 years
Gold strong childhood cancer club member

Sat study help

I got a 1400 on the May sat and improved 40 points from my last test. To prepare I did occasional Kaplan tutoring sessions but due to low availability/other sports and activities I wasn’t consistent. How would you guys recommend studying for the August test? Any specific books/websites/resources that you recommend? Or a good study schedule?
