AI(SI)-Biology and Biohub by AI heavy weights and feds (WH, NIH, DoD, etc.) mark an aggressive push to deploy AI and revolutionize healthcare and protect national biosecurity

I thought this news Tuesday was a material event for a tail wind behind all pharma and biotech sector; MRNA is a big beneficiary. Perhaps we become so numbed for any news from WH. But this one appears significant. Clearly, we started to see material changes in tune and actions from a year ago. This should help MRNA trials, AI medicine, and upcoming BLAs.

Moderna (MRNA) — October 2026 Catalyst Calendar

I used GPT to search and evaluate October's catalysts / big events. I also drilled down on Citi's Geoff Meacham downgrading today, its possible basis, merits and flaws, as well as its comparison with REGN. Basically Meacham's evaluation appears coming from classic sum of parts financial analysis, conservative as he has been since covering MRNA during COVID. That being said, the GPT analysis assessed the MRNA's oncology success or failure, and upcoming systemic events such as PA and other rare diseases, yielding to a summary below:

This October's events are the catalysts I am watching for (See below). From there, could we see which stage MRNA at: oncology platform at $85B MC, or $140B MC, or like Meacham a failure at $35B? My figure crossed.

Pennsylvania woman dies of measles-related complications, local coroner says

Pennsylvania woman dies of measles-related complications, local coroner says

There were scientific reports on the increasing rate of zoonotic spillover as we encroach to undisturbed ecosystems and climate changes. That caught my eyes on Moderna’s pipelines back in 2019-2020. Now with anti-v ideology and less protection now, the eradicated/managed virus such as measles could come back. The cases reported is a case for illustration. It’s so unfortunate for the impacted Pennsylvanians, but at the end, vaccines will be needed as the known effective solution. Moderna’s work is of values to us all.

Merck to Participate in the Wells Fargo 21st Annual Healthcare Conference

Merck is to be in the Wells Fargo conference next Wednesday, a few days ahead of Moderna's. Interesting enough are Merck's Dr. Dean Li the R&D boss keeping the INT trials going w Moderna, and Merck's CFO Caroline Litchfield. The setup to watch.

Further dive on the MRNA and BNTX oncology approach: Why one failed and other succeeded?

I was intrigued by the announcements three days apart b/w INT P3 success on melanoma and BNT 122 failure on colorectal cancer. Many said this contrast is due to INT working on "hot" melanoma while BNT122 on "cold" colorectal cancer. Sounds reasonable, right? The JPM analyst has taken this difference to heart and continued her rating of MRNA as sell and BNTX as buy.

I vaguely remember BNTX also worked on late stage melanoma and failed on it. I did some digging this morning. It was the end of 2025 the BNT111 program discontinued after P2 with a failure. Below is the link. BNT111 was used with Regeneron's Libtayo PD-1 for late stage melanomas. The same trial setup as Moderna.

I think there are more reasons for the difference. Some in this room and I suggested Moderna may have the secret sauce for success. Their conference paper in June indicated native T-cells generated after INT therapy. I think fundamentally these two companies take different approaches in mNRA construct, so the difference in success rate.

The market is still taking the two as the same, and infers from BNT122 failure to doubt whether Moderna's success can be transferable to other cancer indications. Well, we will see.

Hearing bombshell: Acting director of NIH’s infectious disease institute is out

"NIH insiders tell Science they expect [John] Powers, an infectious disease researcher who took a position at NIAID last year as a contractor, will replace Taubenberger. They say Powers and Michael Allen, an administrator with a military background who joined NIAID last year in the newly created position of chief operating officer, have been deeply involved in running the institute. Taubenberger “was not calling the shots,” says one NIAID staffer."
