Experiences w/ G&T at PS 230 in Brooklyn?

Our kiddo who just finished kindergarten at PS 130 just received a G&T offer at PS 230 off of the waitlist for 1st grade. Both schools are walkable and local for us so no commuting involved, but we honestly aren't even sure what criteria we should be using to decide.

We love our current school community and are mostly happy there, though there were some bumps around how some things were handled.

Would love to hear from anyone with experience there or if you've heard anything. We aren't looking for high pressure/competitiveness, but the idea of a (motivated) class staying together throughout elementary seems like it could be a good thing.

Any positive experiences or cautionary tales? Thanks so much!

Experiences with G&T at PS 230?

Hi all,

Our kiddo who just finished kindergarten at PS 130 just received a G&T offer at PS 230 off of the waitlist for 1st grade. Both schools are walkable and local for us so no commuting involved, but we honestly aren't even sure what criteria we should be using to decide.

We love our current school community and are mostly happy there, though there were some bumps around how some things were handled.

Would love to hear from anyone with experience there or if you've heard anything.

Some questions:

- The G&T program at PS 230: how different is the curriculum really, what's the classroom culture like, and how cohesive is the G&T class socially? Happy you did it/happy you didn't?

- PS 230 generally: what's the vibe, what's great, what's not as great?

- G&T programs generally: what was your decision making process/what'd you decide?

We're not looking for high pressure or competition, but the idea of a motivated class that stays together throughout elementary school does have some appeal.

Any positive experiences or cautionary tales? Thanks so much!
