When I started HVAC, I didn’t realize how much the industry keeps changing. New equipment keeps coming out, but at the same time a lot of older systems are still running and need to be worked on

For those already in HVAC, what actually helped you the most when you were just starting out and trying to learn the basics and get comfortable in the field?

For me it started with wanting more money, but learned to love it and have no regrets, but sometimes when I’m stuck in an attic or a nasty basement I’m like, how the hell did I end up here? haha

I’m trying to figure out the best direction: I'm in residential now, but should I try to get into commercial? Also, is it better to get contractor license as soon as possible and start going solo, or stick around working for people a few more years for experience before trying that? Would love to hear how you all see it in the real world.
