introducing 2yr old spayed females

hi all! my partner and i recently moved into an apartment together (yay!) and we both have a cat! quick rundown of them:

partners cat, cricket: 2 years old, spayed, larger (12lbs,) and has previously been super good with other cats!!

my cat, junie: 2 years old, spayed, smaller (8lbs), and has never been super aggressive with my sisters 2 boy neutered cats (the only other cats she’s met)

however, junie hates crickets guts. we’ve been trying to split churrus between them with the door cracked so they can see each other, and all that happens is a little growling from cricket (which isn’t often.) we’ve also scent swapped. each cat has a home base which is our respective rooms, but most of the day cricket has roam of the main living area since she’s significantly more exploratory than junie and will tear things up if she doesn’t have enough room. i’ve tied each of their favorite toys on a shoestring and put it under the door so they can play with each other, which they’ve done! but, without a treat or toy to distract them, they just hiss at each other until one runs away.

we’ve tried to introduce them before, and they co-existed at one point with just a screen door separating them, but they’ve never had any “positive” interactions. i’m just wondering when/if its a good time to just.. let them handle it themselves? im scared somehow they’ll hurt each other severely and have to go to the emergency vet, but i dont really know what else to try for them.

essentially, asking 2 questions: where do i go from here, and how do i stop them from fighting when they eventually do interact without barriers?
