What are you looking forward to the most in the future?

I've been super depressed lately and I get the feeling you guys are too.

It can be an album, a book, a movie, a sports game, someone's birthday etc. it can literally be anything.

What is something that makes you think "you know what? I can't miss out on that, I have to keep going"

How do Americans from Florida feel about Ron DeSantis Amendment 3 proposal?

I'm Canadian, I've added my source for my information below, if anything's wrong, just let me know.

So, from my understanding, Florida voters are currently considering Amendment 3, a ballot measure pushed by Ron DeSantis to eliminate residential property taxes for PERMANENT residents.

To offset the resulting twelve billion dollar annual deficit for local governments, the proposal aims to increase taxes on non-homestead properties such as those owned by Canadian snowbirds. Canadian snowbirds are Canadians who own property in Florida and come south during the winter.

Normally, I'm actually extremely pro taxing people who aren't currently occupying a residence permanently.

The basic argument is that housing is both an investment asset and a place for people to live, and a tax can encourage owners to use residential property in a way that helps the housing market. If someone buys a house or condo and leaves it empty, they are tying up a housing unit without providing someone with a place to live.

The issue is, it's not really clear to me, a Canadian, if he's disproportionately attacking canadians or if he's literally just like, anyone who is not occupying that residence must be taxed, i.e. landlords.

As a Floridan, I have a couple questions;

  1. Do you miss Canadians? Because I miss you.

  2. Is this an attack on Canada or is this just strictly youre having some housing issues and you're just trying to figure it out?

  3. Does this apply to landlords as well? It's not clear to me.

The real reason French was on the table during the trade talks.

There was multiple reasons that French became a subject of debate on the trade talk table. I'm sure some of the reasons you're probably already aware of. I'm going to bring up two reasons that I think that it was brought up because no one is talking about these two reasons. To be clear these are not the only reasons that it was brought up, but these are important reasons I think need to be acknowledged for Canzuk to be successful.

  1. I think because a lot of racist rhetoric is used down south where they pin different races against each other, it is inconvenient to the people who are trying to create race wars for there to be two different and distinct white cultures in the north that don't always get along.

Essentially what these people are trying to say, is that race is the defining factor when it comes to culture and the race is the defining factor when it comes to violence. So, having two white cultures in the north is inconvenient. It essentially disproves that race is a defining factor of culture. Additionally, not only are there two distinct and different white cultures, these two white cultures don't always get along with one another. So you can't say, that it is normal for people to fight over races because we fight the other white people.

They want their racism to be normal and so they're destroying evidence that it isn't normal.

  1. Historically Alberta has hated Quebec and vice versa. I think by putting French on the table during the trade negotiations, they knew that what they were asking for was unreasonable. They knew that we would never say yes to that. So I think that the reason they asked for it was because then they can look at Alberta and say look they chose Quebec over you, doesn't that make you want to leave Canada? And the reason they want Alberta to leave Canada is because then they don't have to offer them minimum mandatory maternity leave or minimum vacation time. They are trying to divide Alberta away from Canada in any way they can.

I'm telling you this because I think it's important for the future of this allyship to have a good understanding of who is in the alliance and who is not. In my opinion as a Canadian, this Alliance will not work if we do not have a part of Alberta.

Do you think that Canada is reasonable for not accepting the trade deal that was set forth by Donald Trump?

Hey, I'm Canadian. I want to know if you were in our shoes, would you be proud of your government for walking away. In addition, in this time of governments/media lying, I thought it would be good for a Canadian to tell Americans the reasons we were told the trade fell through.

We were told that we were close to a deal, but at the last minute the American government made last minute changes using sneaky wording to essentially undermine our culture and values.

In Canada, we provide subsides for French culture, basically we make a sincere effort to advertise and produce French art (music, film, etc) and we also label things in French and English for essentially respect to Quebec but also convenience. Americans might not know this, but there's actually a lot of smaller French cultures spread throughout Canada (Franco-Ontarians, Franco-Albertans, Acadians, Fransaskois, etc.).

The American President said that he didn't like this and didn't want American products to be required to be labeled in our native languages.

The American President also wanted to treat Canadian-made car parts unfairly and to exempt some cars and pick-up trucks from U.S. tariffs but not others without any explanation.

In addition and probably the most unreasonable demand, The American President added the ability to restrict Canada's ability to have trade deals with countries other than the United States. He basically was trying to make it so we could not make trade deals for any commodity with any country that US didn't want us too.

I want you to re-read this, and where I said American President, I want you to replace it with Afghanistan President and I want you to replace the word Canada with America.

How do you feel? Do you think these were reasonable things to ask of us?

I'm so tired of fighting you.

Do states have "relationships" with one another? Is the president your dad?

I'm Canadian and I was just thinking about our provinces have different relationships with one another. I don't know how to explain it, without just showing you how we do it in Canada.

Like Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta are triplets, Alberta and British Columbia have a rivalry.

British Columbia is the sister of Ontario, ontario has a semi toxic romance with Quebec but they're also sometimes brothers (don't ask it's complicated and yes sometimes it's incestuous).

Quebec has a younger sister named New Brunswick who has cousins who are the triplets Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador.

PEI is an orphan that was adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert.

You know, relationships. Does the state you live in have a spiritual brother / sister? Or like a romantic lover in another state? If you were going to make it up, what would you say is your state's relationship?

Is the president your dad?

I hope this makes sense.

Love island: People complaining about Sincere's pronunciation of the word epitome are illiterate and/or don't know what a literary crisis is.

On the TV show love island, there is man named Sincere.

Sincere isn't a nice person and I dont like him. But I have a bone to pick with the people who are saying he's illiterate.

When talking about Casa amor, he refers to it as the epitome of testing connections.

Epitome is pronunced e-pit-toh-me.

Sincere pronounces it "eh-pit-tomb"

To be clear, he pronounces it incorrectly.

However if you look at the definition of epitome, he used the word correctly.

The definition is "a typical or ideal example" according to Merriam-Webster. According to Cambridge dictionary, it's definition is the "typical or highest example of a quality".

He is saying that going to Casa amor is the highest example of testing his relationship.

People online are criticizing him for being illiterate but they don't understand that by saying the word incorrectly, but still using it in the correct context, he accidentally proved that he is literate. Because he probably read it somewhere and wasn't told how to pronounce it.

In addition, when it comes to being illiterate or being considered literate, pronunciation is not an important element of how we measure literacy.

The reason we don't use pronunciation as a metric for literacy is because people will pronounce words differently based on where they're from. An example would be that there is a difference between how people from the United Kingdom say the word aluminum and how people from the United States say aluminum. The reason that people don't pronounce it the same is has nothing to do with accents in that situation, it's literally a linguistic difference.

Both of these are countries are places where the primary language or first language of the country is English. However they pronounce words differently because of accents or linguistic differences.

Him knowing the definition and using it in the correct context means he's not apart of the literacy crises.

People hearing someone mispronounce something and assuming that means they're illiterate proves that they themselves are illiterate, because they don't know the definition of what makes someone literate.

Does the NIV cultural background study Bible contain information that's not in the ESV archeology study Bible?

I already own the ESV archeology study Bible, but I feel like it's missing important information. I was just wondering if the NIV cultural background study Bible contains information that's not in the ESV archeology study Bible. Does anyone own both and can tell me if there is different information in the NIV study Bible or if it's not worth it to buy it.

Thank you.

Does anyone have access or know where I can obtain access to tree type distribution throughout North America?

I basically am looking for a map of North America with ecotypes or tree type chronicled throughout both Canada and the United States.

I don't know if this is the right subreddit to ask this question in so if this is deleted by mods if you could point me in the correct direction it would be much appreciated ♥️

Do you believe in the Lady Eclecte theory?

The picture is the book that I heard this theory from. I haven't READ THE BOOK TO BE CLEAR.

I just heard the theory via the book if that makes sense.

Basically the theory goes that second John was not written to a church using feminine pronouns but was written to a woman.

It's basically the difference between translated it as "Elect lady" versus "“to the lady Eclecte”.

I'm attaching a link to a book review for it, which expisn it better:

https://anglicancompass.com/book-review-lady-eclecte/

Again, bear in mind I haven't read the book.

I was wondering whether anyone here has heard of the theory and if you believe in the theory.

The Toronto Shooting

Shaquan Quashie, 25, and Cesar Vernaza, 20, were murdered, plus five others were injured in a shooting on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

It happened in Toronto ON (Canada), during the Salsa on St. Clair festival. Just hours after that shooting, another shooting happened outside a nightclub which left five people injured. This is Toronto's 19th and 20th Homicide of 2026.

The guns used were brought in illegally through the US border, which is unfortunately a common occurrence in the area.

The videos are really hard to watch, it's just people running and screaming, terrified for their lives.

Heavenly Father,

We come before You with heavy hearts after the tragedy in Toronto. We lift up to You all those who have been injured, those who have lost loved ones, and everyone whose sense of safety has been shaken by this act of violence.

Lord, You are the God of all comfort. Please surround the victims and their families with Your loving presence. Grant healing to those recovering from their injuries, peace to those overwhelmed by grief, and strength to those who now face difficult days ahead. May they know they are not alone, for You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit.

We also pray for the first responders, doctors, nurses, and all who are caring for those affected. Give them wisdom, endurance, and compassion as they serve.

Father, we pray for Toronto and our nation. In a world marked by violence and fear, make us instruments of Your peace. Comfort those who mourn, protect the vulnerable, and help us to love our neighbours with courage and kindness.

We remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ: "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." May Your Church be a light in this dark moment, offering hope, mercy, and practical care to those in need.

Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all who have suffered. May Your grace sustain them today and in the days to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Any prayers for Toronto are welcome.

CBC/Radio-Canada joins EBU as full Member

I feel like I don't really see the benefit of this for Canadian people.

Like CBC/Radio-Canada would have voting rights on EBU policies, governance, and strategic decisions but that really only matters if we care to influence that. Also, this would improve coverage of international events and foster co-productions. Also they do AI and broadcasting research, so that could be interesting. And then like could be cool to do Eurovision.

That's all the pros I thought of.

But like, other than that, I wonder if the cost justifies the expense. Not only do we pay for membership but on top of that, were expected to do contributions. Like we would also have to do content, contribute expertise if asked, and participate in other committees and governance if required. Like I dont see us getting anything out of this that we don't already get?

Am I crazy? Was this the move or not? Genuinely asking because I can be shortsighted sometimes.

What is the difference between theology and dogmatics?

I'm struggling to understand the difference between theology and dogmatics.

I have a lot systematic theology textbooks and now I'm considering buying a dogmatic textbook, but I'm wondering if it's worth it or if it's the same thing.

I keep googling the definitions but it doesn't really make sense.

It sort of seems like maybe theology is the content and dogmatics is the format the content is displayed in.

Is dogmatics the theology of specific denominations where as systematic is the stuff we all agree on?

I am very confused, if anyone can go full teacher mode and explain it to me I would really appreciate it.

A year ago I was evicted and then my father was diagnosed with cancer. I have been unable to attend church because of this due to transportation issues, but I'm now able too.

It's still too far from my old congregation to reasonably drive there, but there's a church I used to go to when I was child. I havnt been there since elementary school (15ish years).

I'm just wondering what questions I should ask to ensure the church is a good fit. Lmk if I've included enough information so this post makes sense or you have any follow up questions
