Second egg retrieval - looking for advice
During my first pregnancy, I found out I am a carrier for fragile x (low premutation range). So we decided to pursue IVF for our second.
The first egg retrieval seemed to be going ok - I ended up with 22 eggs retrieved. The dr was happy with the progress and this number and said I was in their donor ranges. The issue is, we lost the vast majority of them to maturity - before fertilization or anything - and ended up with 1 embryo with my condition.
I was shocked when the dr explained that, essentially the first round tells them how I’ll react to the medication, and they can adjust the protocol from there. She seemed confident next time would be different.
I’m now worried about the new protocol - what should I be asking? How should we do things differently? How can I check that we’re doing the right things?
I saw a post in the IVF channel about how someone’s clinic no longer recommends ICSI for PGTM as you have to wait for eggs to mature before proceeding, and it’s harder on the eggs. They say you lose a lot in that maturity step so conventional IVF should lead to better outcomes. Should I not do ICSI to help with the maturity drop off? Why is my clinic still recommending it.
Thank you, I am feeling lost and scared and appreciate any advice
