Fort McMurray teachers AB

I just signed my contract and I’m moving from Toronto to Fort McMurray for a teaching job. I’m excited, but also pretty nervous since this is a big move for me.
I wanted to ask experienced teachers and locals a few things:

-> What’s the best way to find rentals and where should I stay?

-> What other benefits should I expect besides salary, like gym access, sports facilities, swimming, or other staff perks?

-> My class size will probably be around 25 in Grade 5 How do you manage the first few days with a new class that size?

-> What should I do first after signing the contract and before moving?

Any advice from teachers who have already made this move would mean a lot. I’m feeling a little anxious, but I’m also looking forward to starting this new chapter.

Help! LTO Interview Coming Up – What Should I Prepare?

Hey everyone! I have an upcoming LTO (Long-Term Occasional) teacher interview in Ontario and would really appreciate your help.

If you’ve gone through LTO or supply teacher interviews recently, could you please share:

• Questions you were asked
• Tips that helped you succeed
• Anything you wish you had prepared better

Thanks so much in advance—your advice means a lot!

Hi everyone,
I got my OCT license last year (Intermediate division) and have been actively applying for supply and occasional teaching positions, but I haven’t had much luck hearing back. I’m currently based in the Brantford area.
My wife recently secured a job here, so relocating isn’t an easy option for us right now. However, I’m starting to feel quite stressed about my career path since I genuinely enjoy teaching and want to continue in this field.
I’ve been considering moving to Alberta for better opportunities, but that would be a big decision for our family.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with experience in Ontario—especially those who were in a similar situation:
• Are there better strategies to get into supply lists or LTO roles in this region?
• Are there specific boards or areas nearby that are more responsive?
• Would additional qualifications (AQs) or certifications make a significant difference?
• Is it worth waiting it out in Ontario, or is moving provinces a more practical step?
Any advice, insights, or personal experiences would mean a lot.
Thanks in advance!
