I also don’t understand the hkp56 marking. The shell is huge, and it’s the same size as an M42 EF68.

Does anyone know if this was a cammo helmet?

I cleaned it with Evaporust and now there is more paint visible. It looks like the paint on the inside is thin and grey, while the paint on the outside appears thicker with green and white colors. It could just be the ground that changed the color, but I’m not sure. It also had parts of chicken wire attached when I found it, but most of it fell off.

All the other white stuff you can see is renaissance wax to preserve it but i still need to remove that somehow .
