Which med did you start with and why? 6F
I think I am finally at the point where medication seems like the best choice for our daughter and family. Our daughter has had extensive testing which has showed ADHD and social anxiety. Summary of symptoms -
Our daughter is 6 years old and in kindergarten. In Kindergarten, she is extremely well behaved. She is on an IEP for speech, and we recently had a meeting with the SLP and her teacher. Her teacher said “I wish all of my students were like her.” She is very quiet and calm at school, but it’s because she has really bad social anxiety. She won’t speak up for herself and has a difficult time making friends. She speaks very quietly at school and is difficult to understand. At home, it’s completely different. She is impulsive and angry. She frequently beats on her younger sister (4F). She gets mad at her for anything and everything. She yells at us to shut up. She cannot recover from meltdowns. They go on and on for hours. We have had babysitters fire us, because she is so challenging at home. The other day she had a very bad day. Towards the end of the day, she just started sobbing and sobbing and I gave her a hug and cuddled her and just asked her what was going on and why she was feeling that was and she sobs “I don’t know.” It broke my heart. I recently started getting help for my ADHD, and have found meds to be helpful. I was very similar to her as a child, and I know how crazy I felt in my head. I don’t want her to feel that way. We mainly just want her to feel calmer and work on impulsive behavior. Our concern is that her younger sister gets the brunt of it. In the past I was resistant to meds because I didn’t want to medicate her to make MY life better. But now I’m realizing she’s miserable.
