My partner and I are relocating to Austin soon and have narrowed our apartment search down to two main options: West Koenig Flats and Medina Highlands.

However, looking at reviews online, my two biggest anxieties are cockroaches/pest issues and slow/neglectful maintenance teams. I know Texas bugs are a different breed, but I'd really love to avoid a full-blown infestation or a management team that ignores work orders for weeks.

We’re looking for that walkable, urban vibe where we can easily head out to grab coffee, hit up a restaurant, or grab a drink without needing to drive everywhere.

However, looking at reviews online, my two biggest anxieties are cockroaches/pest issues and slow/neglectful maintenance teams. I know Texas bugs are a different breed, but I'd really love to avoid a full-blown infestation or a management team that ignores work orders for weeks.

If you currently live or recently lived at either of these spots:

• How is the bug situation? Are the lower floors prone to pests? Does pest control actually do anything?
• How is management/maintenance? Do they respond quickly to urgent issues, or do you have to constantly follow up?
• General vibe/walkability: Is the neighborhood as accessible and lively as it looks on paper?
