My wife’s boyfriend is refusing to wear a mask when he comes over and it makes me uncomfortable.
I never thought I’d end up in a poly relationship, but a couple years ago my wife brought it up. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about the idea at first, but I wanted to support her and keep our marriage strong, so I gave it a shot.
Fast forward to now, and she’s been seeing this guy pretty regularly. The problem is that he absolutely refuses to wear a mask when he comes over. I’ve tried explaining why it bothers me. I’ve told him COVID hasn’t magically disappeared and that I’d feel a lot more comfortable if he’d just wear a mask while he’s here. He just laughs it off and says, “I’m vaccinated and boosted, dude.”
My wife thinks I’m overreacting and says I’m making things awkward. But it’s my house too, even though I’m technically unemployed now and she pays all the bills. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want someone to respect a basic boundary when they’re in my home.
Now I’m stuck feeling like the odd man out. Everyone else seems to have moved on, and I’m sitting here stressing every time he comes over. The anxiety is getting pretty bad, and honestly, just knowing he’s hanging out unmasked in my living room makes my stomach turn.
Am I being unreasonable here? Has anyone else dealt with a partner’s partner ignoring boundaries like this?
My wife’s boyfriend won’t stop humiliating me in Mario Kart
My wife’s boyfriend comes over every Friday night and insists on playing Mario Kart before they spend time together. At first it was fun, but lately he’s been taking it way too seriously. He knows all the shortcuts, drifts around every corner perfectly, and somehow always has a blue shell waiting for me on the last lap.
Last week I finally got first place and he just said “good job buddy” before immediately beating me by 20 seconds in the next race. My wife laughed when he started referring to me as “Player 2” instead of using my actual name.
I’ve tried practicing but it’s hard to improve when he’s apparently training like there’s a Mario Kart Olympics. Would it be unreasonable to ask him to use a worse character combination, or is that controlling behavior?
