Warning: RCS encryption for texts is not working for iPhone users with IMSI rotation enabled

I noticed my texts say “not encrypted”, and RCS (which can encrypt texts) is off. It just says “awaiting verification“. Support said it won’t work because I have IMSI rotation enabled. So much for security.

Now I have to reset and reinstall SIM to get RCS back.

Not sure it’s worth it. I’m paying more than what I could pay elsewhere for cell service.

If anyone is willing to use one of my referrals, I might keep cape.

Need a referral code

update: I spoke too soon, cape told me they can’t apply it but gave me the same price for next 6 months and refunded me for the first bill. Please help me out and use my referral code below :)

I forgot to apply one during setup, and Cape support (via chat) has offered to apply one now, which is awesome. Would love to get one I can confirm is working.

Here is mine if anyone needs one, I still have 4 slots left (but will update this if the number changes): Q36XG3N3

Having issues with iPhone 17e

I just got a new iPhone 17e from Apple store and within days it’s already being buggy and weird with settings changing themselves. Had anyone else has these issues?

  • Although I turned off keyboard typing sounds, they turned themselves on randomly (while typing a URL into Safari address bar) then after 5 minutes of browsing in Safari they turned themselves back off while entering another address
  • While browsing Reddit, I clicked on a post, and instead of that post opening, Guardian news site opened. I do read that site but don’t understand why it opened. I went back to Reddit to try opening that post again, in case it had an embedded link or something, and was able to open that post and didn’t see any links within it
  • the font for the time on the Lock Screen changed itself
  • the Password app icon, which was on my home page, suddenly duplicated itself and now there are two next to each other though I don’t recall adding the second one
  • Apple said I cannot share location with apps since I’m in lockdown mode… then I got a pop up asking me if I wanted to share my location with app, which I was able to do successfully without turning off Lockdown mode
  • Auto correct of words isn’t working properly and replaces the right word with a wrong one sometimes. For example, while writing this post, it replaced “didn’t” with “disnt” and replaced ”example” with “exampl” after I hit space bar. I spelled both words correctly the first time
  • If it matters, I’m using lockdown mode and i have Apple Intelligence turned off. Are these bugs or is my phone hacked or something?

The limits of IMSI rotation

How useful can IMSI rotation every 24 hours be if the activity trail you leave during that day can still be tied to things like your email address, name, social, IMEI, IP or other identifying info? When your name and email persist in a database but your IMSI changes, couldn’t they still paint a detailed portrait of you and your footprint?

I don’t have a lot of info regarding the types of info collected by networks or data brokers, but to my knowledge, they sometimes aggregate info on individuals that covers these various categories so rotating your IMSI seems useless against that. I’ve heard stories of soldiers and other people being tracked at their house because data brokers know this about you and tie it to your identity

If anyone can shed some light on this, I’d appreciate it.

I recently decided to give Cape a try, and if anyone else wants to join, use my code for $20 off: Q36XG3N3

Do any mobile networks protect against SS7 attacks?

I just read about this through Cape and was considering activating it but it looks like their Network Lock feature, which helps protect against it, won’t work if you’re in iOS Lockdown mode, which I am.
