Changes the country needs but won't happen
Yesterday night (we were fairly drunk) my partner and me got to discussing what can improve this country (yes even under influence of alcohol, we know these changes would never happen) but we came up with a basic structure for rules and laws for governance
WITH RESPECT TO MARITAL LAWS -
- Increase marriage age to 25. If you are to deal with family dynamics and parenthood, a minimum maturity age of 25 should be required. This can be altered with future development.
- Mandate civil unions. Any two people who wish to marry must legally have a civil union with agreed upon terms. Ofcourse the religious ceremonies can be performed as per individual/couple rights but it won't be legally binding unless it's a civil union in a court.
- Anyone wishes to end their marriage can get it legally annulled without any contest. Anyone who doesn't wish to stay in a marriage shouldn't be forced to. Kids, property, etc disputes must be settled within 1 month of someone requesting an annulment by both parties. And noone can get a civil union unless prior one is anulled.
WITH RESPECT TO GOVT -
- Any minister who holds a portfolio must have a master's or phD in that field along with 5 years of govt experience. For example, the education minister should have an MEd degree and 5 years experience as a teacher in a govt school or college (any subject, heck, get the PT teacher). RBI governor should have an MCom/PhD in Economics/MA Economics and 5 years experience as a Government bank employee (having passed the banking exams). Defence minister should have served armed forces for atleast 10 years. You get the gist.
- Any minister contesting elections should prove women's safety in their constituencies - the males must dress up as women and walk at night alone without any security with a secret camera crew to show their constituencies are safe for women. This must continue after they're elected. If an independent panel of women cannot seem their place has been made atleast 20% safer in their first year (and more safe in subsequent years), they must be removed from post and blacklisted from recontesting elections for atleast 2 election cycles.
- Each state govt must have seperate ministries for women, LGBTQ+ community and SC/ST communities headed by members who are part of the community and elected by members of the community that answers to a central government department that's hired via UPSC and not a part of politics.
- Any minister should not have dependent children studying outside the country getting their education funded. They can only go if they get a job/full scholarship in a different country.
- Any elected official cannot seek medical treatments in a private hospital. They can only seek medical treatments from a govt hospital.
WITH RESPECT TO EMPLOYMENT -
RN starting freshers salary must be 5LPA. Based on economy and inflation and cost of living this can be Revised every 2 years by people more qualified.
Every position should pay for medical insurance, parental leaves and health coverage upto two years for any employee who has been with that company/govt position for more than 5 years.
Any non corporate labour work - construction, maids, cooks, delivery apps, etc should still have a min wage of 2.5-3LPA. (I don't know how this would work due to multiple gigs and all)
No armed forces employee should carry weapons inside the country or be deployed anywhere inside the nation. Their work and deployment must be exclusively at the borders and they would be provided all the ammunition for that. Retired veterans must be given housing, mental health support and medical aid for free their whole life along with a pension that reflects the cost of living.
We were going to next discuss healthcare reforms needed but we figured nothing would change in this country, esp if politicians actually had to serve the citizens so it's better to sleep 🙈😂
