Question about using kam snaps on a tent fly fabric as I'm planning to add a perimeter mesh to a tarp/tent fly

I want to add a perimeter mesh to a tarp/tent fly, and like the idea of using the kam snaps to quickly attach or detach it from the fly. My worry though is that the hole it puts through the fabric will spread? I don't have any experience with this type of thing so I want to check before I go ahead and do it. There won't be really any tension on it, just hanging down from the perimeter, but the fly will be under tension so my worry was it will make the hole spread. Maybe a non issue but, i wanted to be sure!

Edit: I'll add, I'm open to other ideas on how to attach it! These were just the best way I had thought of as of now!

How hard would it be to make a new silpoly fly for the fly creek ul2?

It's not about getting a new fly, I love the tent and having a silpoly fly would make it just about perfect for me personally. I don't have any sewing experience though, but I want to learn anyways. Plus, I feel like this tent specifically may be easier as there are really only 4 main panels unlike some other tents? If anyone has some resources or tips or really any input its more than welcome!

Shakedown! After input from a previous shakedown, here is the new setup!

I managed to cut about 6lbs from the last version, so, here I am again! Hoping for tips or tricks to make double use of things (such as clothes for pillow which I'm going to try out), anything i can to lose a bit more! If you saw the last post, thank you for your input! (This version was without having to spend a lot and trying to make do with what I had already from years gone by!) Have at it! (Don't be afraid to be blunt either, I need it haha)

Looking for recommendations on polyester tents, trying to save weight but stick with polyester.

Looking for recommendations on polyester tents, trying to save weight but stick with polyester.

Right now I have a copper spur 2, and I really need to save some weight out of my pack. I like the design, but, not the weight or it being made of nylon. So, looking for recommendations on where to look, I have an X-Mid 2, and have tried an X-dome but the footprint was just too big on the mid and the dome doesn't fit my pad in it! If there are any non US brands, like Trekkertent, I like their stealth 2, but I can't tell if the head room is enough from the photos, I'm roughly 6' (and use a 4.6 in by 30 in pad it's a monster i know) and want to be able to sit up comfortably inside it! Also, if you know of any subs where I might get better info feel free to let me know! I've pretty throughly scoured the US market so hence why I'm thinking maybe non US companies!

Okay, so, after much research, and other questions. I'm still at a loss, what temp rating (comfort and limit) bag/quilt should I use for a early march start?

I have done a good bit of hiking, and have spent a bit too much on bags already, all for them to not be as warm as I had thought. Right now I have a 25 limit/35 comfort rated quilt, as my warmest quilt. I am trying to figure out if that will be enough for a last week February or first week of march start from Georgia. I honestly can't tell you if I sleep cold or not, but I do know, once I get cold, I STAY cold, so that is a concern. My current setup weighs 4 lbs 7 oz if I layer quilts, which will for sure be warm enough, but is just too heavy! I'm hoping someone in here has some recommendations on where to look or what I can do! (Hopefully without breaking the bank but, if will do if absolutely necessary)

Shakedown please! In desperate need of one! It just keeps getting heavier! 😂

I have been going over this for a year and, despite my best efforts, I've reached a setup that would work for me, but now it weighs a ton! Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated!

Making a new fly for an old copper spur ul2

Okay, maybe I'm in over my head here but, I have spent far too much time trying to find the "perfect" tent. And come to realise that this ole copper spur, would be it, if it were to have a polyester fly. I've more or less accepted that if I want what I want out of a tent, I'll have to do it myself.

Now, the problem comes, i have absolutely NO experience sewing or any related projects. I'm more than willing to learn and get into it, but my question is, how hard is it to make my own fly for it from scratch? I've seen posts of others who have done similar things which is what inspired me to try! I'll add i do WANT to try and make it as I think it would be fun to make my own stuff, I just was hoping to get any tips or pointers from those who have already attempted something like this!

The fly is still in amazing condition, so I'd hate to have to cut it to get measurements as i have seen recommend before! It's not a cost thing either, I just know what I want and as of now, no one is making a tent quite the way I'd do it if I were to design it. Someday I'd like to make one complete from scratch but, I think just the fly is a good start! So any kind of info or tips is absolutely greatly appreciated! (Yes I'm aware I jumped off the deep end on this I think, I do that with everything 😂)
