Need new measurements that are not from a scale

OK- longtime lurker looking for advice. sorry for the length, I’m on high dose prednisone and have a lot of thoughts .

Ive always been a solid lady, took me 40 years to lean into that and lift weights partially to celebrate my strength. GLP-1s (took those for one year) helped me celebrate it more because they pulled fat off which showed some muscle, fixed my A1C, instantly made my bad back painless (hereditary pars defect), and completely stopped decades long disordered eating (not an ED, just eating past fullness, like a subjective binge)

yesterday docs finally diagnosed with an allergy to all Glp-1s after I tried three and broke out into horrible hives every time I tried to move to a moderate dose. I even tried to hide the hives for a while each time, do not recommend.

so here I am, frankly pretty bummed, but trying to still celebrate my strength. I don’t want to gaslight myself that if I *just try hard enough* I’m going to fix my A1C and my back and see a number on the scale that’s “good“ and make huge changes. I know that’s not true, because I was the same body fat percentage at my highest weight and my lowest (26%), and I’ve got to constantly work to drop the “good” and “bad” number thing

What measurements can I use to reinforce progress for strength and fitness that might be less triggering? Thanks for reading and any ideas!

Place to go in hot weather with kids

today is our last day and it is HOT! my four year old and i tried to go to the playgrounds by the Eiffel Tower and she just about melted into a whining puddle.

frantically I looked for somewhere to cool off and found the nearby https://m.quaibranly.fr/fr/, which had amazing exhibits of indigenous, African and Asian art, in a stroller friendly setting, with excellent AC.

For 14 euro total we learned a lot, viewed some very interesting sculptures, textiles and art pieces, and, perhaps most importantly at her age, had access to a great toilet and a beautiful space to move and explore.

just in case anyone gets stuck in the heat in that area.

Deep thoughts from an airplane

Parenting is staying absolutely still in a contorted position for 9 hours while thinking “I want to sleep but not as badly as I want YOU to sleep.”

That’s all.

[election related] A thank you to Novato neighbors

I want to say a tremendous thank you to our neighbors. Being overtaxed is a real concern, fiscal irresponsibility is a serious problem and Im grateful for every conversation I‘ve had that has opened my mind further to these issues.

It‘s incredibly heartening to see the how, even with this real stress on our system, many of our neighbors spoke up in support of Measure G, which provides needed school funding. They took the time to evaluate the facts- the citizen oversight committee, the endorsements even from anti-tax groups, the guardrails that don’t allow this funding to be used for administrator salaries.

They reviewed the benefits to our community that extend beyond schools- cost savings in the future, increased property values and better futures for our young people.

This means more to me that any election. Thanks for restoring my faith in community, Novato.

Novato Measure G

Today I got the chance to talk to my neighbors about Measure G. A few great questions came up:

  1. Won’t this money just go to administrator salaries?
Answer: No. Every penny stays in Novato and cannot be taken by the State or federal government. By law, no funds can be used for administrator salaries or pensions.

  2. Didn’t we just pass a parcel tax increase?
Answer: The last parcel tax increase was 18 years ago!

  3. I don’t have kids in the district, why should I do this?
Answer:Economic research shows that providing needed school funding increases property values and reduces the need for social funding program down the line. A yes vote is actually the financially sound decision.

Thanks for chatting with me, neighbors! I love living in this community!
