A couple of weeks ago I bought my first reel to reel and it came with a bunch of prerecorded tapes, one of which was Elton John - Goodbye Brick Road. I put it on and there was no music, fast forwarded to the middle of the tape, played it forward and reverse and nothing. I tried recording onto it but it didn't record any audio. I had the matte side of the tape towards the heads. I thought maybe it didn't record because of something wrong with the deck, but I bought a new reel off of Amazon and it recorded just fine.
Is the tape just junk? I'm aware having a magnetic feel near the tape can erase it but can it also ruin it so that you can't record on it? Or are there other things that can cause this?
John Prine BBC Sessions and Indri single malt
Rhino seems to be turning out a lot of 2-track 15ips tape now. Anyone on here in know and have heard if they're planning on doing any 4-track 7-1/2ips tape?
The Grateful Dead- Workingman's Dead is sold out on Rhino's website but you can buy a copy on Discogs for $2,000... it's a scalper's world we live in.
Somebody post up Timewave Zero before the 24hr window closes, then All Gates Open! 🍻
Dylan and Wild Turkey 101. After a little self education on reel to reel I couldn’t pass up the deal on this Akai GX-255. Cheers to heading down another rabbit hole 🍻
Pulled out my box of CDs maybe a year ago and the case for this album was empty. I preordered this so long ago I kinda forgot about it, but today it finally arrived.
I enjoy crate digging through used records, whether that be at my local record shop's discount or $1 bins, or at the thrift stores. What do you have in your current collection that you wish you had a better copy of? I'm not talking about finding an original pressing or a specific master, just something with less noise or wear and tear. For me I'm hoping to come across a cleaner copy of Blues Magoos- Psychedelic Lollipop and Osibisa- s/t in the wild someday.
Picked up my first integrated last weekend off fb marketplace from the original owner, complete with owner manuals. A little Deoxit, checked the bias and tweaked the meter pots so they match and she’s singing beautifully.
Freddie Hubbard with an excellent cast of players and a beer from Cacoon brewing- Fragments of Flight
Found this Eddie Money in the $1 bin a while back, then a couple weeks ago I found another copy in the $1 bin and grabbed that one too, I figured I’d keep one and give the other to a friend. Turns out the first one I found (pictured) is an original pressing and second one I found was a reissue. It was the first time I’ve been able to compare two copies and the difference was noticeable immediately despite the reissue copy looking pretty much in brand new condition. I definitely get why people hunt down original pressings.
The last track of the album has played and as you're walking over to the turntable you say to yourself "what a great album". I know a lot of the time it can be how the music happens to fit your mood at the time, but I'm curious what was the last album you listened to that the music just hit right? For me it was Hermanos Gutierrez- El Bueno Y El Malo
