How dare you park in an unassigned spot that I might use at some point

I live on a street with free unassigned parking. There is a row of units next to me, which has a driveway and a parking garage for each unit. Most of the rest of us park on the street. But an older couple in one of the units is absolutely obsessed with reserving the spot outside their place. They never seem to actually leave their home, they just seem to always be watching that parking space. They'll peek out of their door and make disapproving noises, or they will come out and ask you to leave because it needs to be left for them. It is absolutely not, in any way, legally their parking space. And they do have their own garage.

Today, it was the only free space, so I parked there. The lady emerged and said I needed to leave because she had a 'truck delivery at some time today'. I replied (politely) that unfortunately it's not an assigned space and there's nowhere else to park. She said 'just be kind', which hit a nerve because I reckon I am quite a kind person. But then she called me a 'bloody bitch' and a 'shithead'.

Eyeshadow that won't ruin sensitive lids

I have extremely sensitive and eczema-prone eyelids. Sometimes I can get them under control with medicated creams and gentle moisturiser, but as soon as I wear eyeshadow, they'll flare for days. It's a real shame because I love doing complicated eye looks.

I've tried so many palettes, and really can't find any particular correlation with a certain one. Although I did get less flaring when I threw out all the old palettes that had been hanging in my cupboard since probably primary school.

Travel shoes that don't look like 'travel shoes'

I'm travelling overseas soon, on a trip that will likely involve some light hikes and some moderately crappy weather. Does anyone have any recommendations for shoes that will take some beating, but will actually look good if I go directly from a hike to the pub?

So far I'm thinking Salomon or Merrell vibes but nothing is really inspiring me yet.

Why are there dogs at this dog cafe

I was sitting outside in a cafe with my mother and her dog. It was a sunny day, and this cafe is massive, busy, and known for being dog friendly. So every table had at least one dog. At the next table are these two young ladies, and one is staring murderously at my mother while the other is curling her legs up underneath her on the chair and glaring at our dog. The angrier girl says ‘My friend is scared of your dog! You need to move her.’ Now this animal is 5kg, fluffy, scared of her own shadow, and she’s sitting under the table silently staring into space. We reply that the dog is very friendly and won’t cause any trouble. What we should have said is ‘you chose to sit outside at a dog friendly cafe in the summer and our dog was here first. And if you’re afraid of her, the onus is on you to move, no?’ They sat there huffing and puffing and rolling their eyes while they finished their iced matchas.

Edited to add: lotta discussion about what constitutes a dog cafe. This place is listed on the internet as ‘dog friendly‘ and is very clearly always filled with dogs. So if you don't like dogs, and see dogs there, why would you sit down?

Complete strangers (heroes) helped save my dog's life

Trigger warning for hurt animals, but I promise this has a happy ending.

I was walking my sweet little dog in a public park when she was attacked by another dog. I won't get into specifics but she was extremely badly hurt. I freaked out, started screaming, didn't know what to do. Then people gently started approaching to see if we were okay, and someone brought us some blankets and some water.

A car came speeding down the street. It was the husband of a lady who had been walking her own little dog near us (we had exchanged pleasantries a few blocks back). They bundled me and my dog into the car and sped to a nearby vet hospital. I was in too much shock to care that we had potentially been abducted by strangers. The lady came with me into the hospital, sat with me as I filled out the forms, and waited while they took my dog to surgery. Then she gently went to leave. I begged her to let me do something for her, but she only gave her first name, not a number or an address for me to send her the world's biggest box of chocolates.

The vets worked their magic on my dog and she lived. Then a few weeks later my mum was sitting with her at a cafe, with my dog still covered with a few bandages. A lady approached and recognised my dog, even remembers her name - it was our guardian angel! Lots of crying, cuddles, etc etc.

These people helped me on the worst day of my life and asked for absolutely nothing in return.

Followed home by wannabe ticket inspector

This is a bit of an ethical quandary, because technically I was in the wrong, but I would argue that this dude was more in the wrong.

I live in a city with pretty good public transport, but it is incredibly difficult to actually purchase a ticket. You need a physical card, which can be topped up with money, but only at certain train stations and random 7-11 stores, but no tram or bus stops. Or you download an app, register yourself including giving your entire life history, then add money. It's very dumb.

I finished a long work day, got on the tram, realised no money left on my card. Pulled out the app, tried to top up, but it malfunctioned. In order to legally travel, I would have had to get off the tram, get an uber or walk to a nearby train station, top up, then get back home. I wasn't having it. So I stayed on for the 3 quick stops it took to get home, and planned to gently plead my case if I encountered a ticket inspector. Also, no one in my city ever really pays for trams anyway.

I took a phone call during the trip, and I noticed this older guy was staring at me. He barely blinked, just staring right at me the whole time. He was wearing a bow tie, so I wasn't too intimidated, but he was carrying a gnarly cane. He got off the same stop as me and walked right behind me, even when I turned into a quieter side street (which, as a young woman, I was a little freaked by). He then followed me into the supermarket. Then I hung up the phone and he's staring right at me, and he yelled at full volume, 'COULD HAVE BOUGHT A TICKET'. In that tone people use when they've clearly been rehearsing what they were going to say. He looked around triumphantly as if expecting applause, but the busy supermarket just went quiet and stared. He gets up close, shakes his cane in my face and whispers, 'now you will learn', and left.

Sorry, this was mostly a rant about the flaws in my city's PT network. But does this gent get to follow me and yell at me in a public place because I denied my city council a $4.50 fee?

Relentless breast pain

I have had breast swelling and pain for nearly 8 months now, and I'm losing my mind.

I'm 31 and would say I'm currently overall healthy. But for multiple years I had amenorrhea due to low body weight, and during that time my usually busty breasts were a bit smaller and softer.

The swelling began unilaterally, then became bilateral after a few weeks, and has essentially stayed since that time. Firm, lumpy, extremely tender, warm (but not hot or red). I've gone up at least 2 cup sizes.
I've tried multiple antibiotics, oral steroids, low-oestrogen OCP, evening primrose, vitamin E, compressive bras, cold packs, hot packs and lymphatic massage. I've seen 3 GPs and a breast clinic. I've had a mammogram, ultrasound and hormonal blood tests. Absolutely nothing has given any answers. The only time they haven't been swollen was following my first period in years, after which they decompressed and I cried with joy. This indicated to me that the change was hormonal, and I assumed it was just my body waking up again after so long without a period. But now the next 2 periods have come and gone, and it's as bad as ever.

It's making me miserable, and causing quite extreme body dysmorphia.

Does anyone have any answers?
