Control your Alt Text - InDesign 21.2 and above...

InDesign's AI-generated Alt Text can be a real mess (thanks, Adobe!) and the latest 21.5 release still doesn't fix it. So I built the Alt Text Toolkit 1.0 for my own projects: six handy scripts to audit, fix, convert and take back control of the alt text on images in your InDesign documents.

Take a look and grab them if they sound useful to you too!

--
Alt Text Startup Disabler
A startup script that disables indesign’s generative ai alt text settings at launch.
--
Alt Text Source Report
An audit tool that reports each image’s alt text source and custom text in a new document.
--
Alt Text AI-Generated Clearer
A bulk cleanup tool that removes ai-generated alt text.
--
Alt Text AI markers remover
A cleanup tool that removes only ai marker lines while keeping the generated description for review.
--
Alt Text Custom to Structure
A bulk converter that changes image alt text sources.
--
Alt Text Navigator
A per-image console for reviewing, editing, deleting, or changing image alt text settings.

Comes with a PDF user guide that explains each script: why, when and how to use it.

Available as Pay what you want: (minimum $3.00)

One year of GREP MegaPack

I've been using GREP in InDesign since it showed up in CS3. I remember the first time I replaced a half hour of manual cleanup with one expression and just sat there, slightly annoyed that I hadn't had this the whole time. Since then it's become the thing I reach for before almost anything else, and, honestly, the thing I've spent the most hours explaining to other people.

The engine is genuinely powerful. But at some point I started asking myself what else I could do with it. Not just find and change, but run queries in sequence, scope them properly, inspect them, reuse them, check them before they wreck a document. The capability was always there. It just needed a different way in.

So over the years I kept building small tools around that question, mostly for myself at first. Individually they're modest. Together they turned into a way of working that I can't go back from.

A year ago I bundled 17 of them and released it as GREP MegaPack, genuinely unsure whether anyone else wanted this. Turns out a fair number of you did. It's at 28 scripts now and still growing, mostly because people keep writing to me with "could it also do…", and often it could. In the same spirit, I recently released GREPedia for free, in several languages, so anyone can keep learning the code itself rather than depending on tools to write it for them.

Now I'm curious about you. What are you actually using GREP for day to day? Cleaning up imported text, styling numbers, fixing typographic junk, something stranger? And more interesting to me: what have you wanted it to do and hit a wall on? Every idea in the pack started as someone being annoyed at something, mine or somebody else's. If there's a thing you keep doing by hand because GREP almost gets you there but not quite, I'd like to hear about it.

Anyway. One year. Thanks to everyone here who tried it, broke it, or told me what was missing. Happy to answer GREP questions in the comments whether or not you ever touch the pack.

Happy Birthday GREP MegaPack

GREP Codes cheatsheet!

Do you actually remember all the GREP codes in InDesign by heart? Yeah… me neither. Especially the ones you never even see in the Find/Change dialog.

Now imagine having a floating palette with all that GREP knowledge right at your fingertips. Even better, what if you could build your own custom cheatsheet to print or export as PDFs for yourself, your team, or your students?

My friends, that’s exactly what GREPedia does.

It’s both a floating GREP encyclopedia and a powerful cheat sheet generator, created to help you discover, learn, and retain GREP more effectively.

The script is completely free, available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Portuguese
GREPedia is also included in the GREP Megapack 2.0 bundle, alongside 28 other powerful scripts.

Go get it. Spread the love of GREP!
