Vehicle Illustration: Is there an easy way to change colors?
I did an illustration of a '67 Chevelle a couple of years back. A good friend had found one that he planned on restoring and painting red. Not that there's anything wrong with red, but I never thought red looked good on that body - personal preference. So one week, being bored, I did an illustration of his car and set it up so that I could fairly easily change the colors to give him a look at different options. I had assigned the body color as a separate color layer. The shading was on a different luminosity layer. I would select the color layer to adjust the colors, then select the luminosity layer and adjust the opacity until I thought it looked good. I thought it would be a quick way to change the art, but depending on the hue, it could get cumbersome to achieve the look right without a bit of work. But I got it done. My friend came up with a color he liked - gray, so I made him a few DTG T-shirts for shop shirts while he worked on it.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, Someone saw his T-shirt and then contacted me to do an illustration for their car rebuild ideas - and for T-shirts, and a car show sign. I’m hoping to speed up the process. I’m looking for a one click solution to change colors. If you know any vehicle illustration tutorials that may help. Let me know if you have a better idea or if you’ve found a great tune. Most that I’ve found are fairly basic: draw, fill, add gradation. Thanks!
