Pica Conversion Off?

Pica Conversion Off?

I'm lacking sleep and having trouble wrapping my head around this:

https://preview.redd.it/1d86tntwnzjh1.jpg?width=694&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f1faeae3bf982230ba73e91089ca3d240444863

I have a document that has typographical print measures that needs to be converted to online screen measures. Online searches indicate that 1 pica converts to 16 pixels. However, when I tell Illustrator to convert, it seems to be doing 1 pica = 12 pixels.

What's going on? Did AI and/or search steer me wrong? Is there some program setting I need to adjust that might be off? Or am I just asleep and there's fundamental issues with trying to convert this in the first place?

No English captions on physical media for retro anime?

Thanks to the encouragement from this community, I've started to once again rebuild my retro anime physical media collection after years of being streaming only.

Most recently, I picked up The Vision of Escaflowne (the show, not the movie) on blu-ray soon after someone here said it was available in 4k.

I was disappointed to find that the copy I ordered (produced by Funimation) not only wasn't 4k, but didn't include captions along with the English dub, save for the intro and outro.

I asked Grok if there were other editions that had English dub with English captions, and was told that no, the vast majority of physical media anime from around that time period (80s/90s) don't possess English captions alongside the English dub, particularly Funimation titles.

Is that true? If so, it's a BIG problem as I have severe hearing loss and won't be able to understand--much less enjoy--said physical media.

I fear the whole endeavor to rebuild may be doomed.

Grok also said The Vision of Escaflowne doesn’t exist in 4k format anywhere, and that streaming services DO include captions with English dub.

Is it just selling out to the big streaming corporations? Is there a4k version somewhere?

How Do I Downsize Images for PowerPoint Slides with Actions?

I'm trying to create a Photoshop Action that will take an image larger than 1920 x 1080px, and downscale it to fit within those bounds, and if it is already smaller than those dimensions, to do nothing at all.

I've not had much luck so far, and am hoping to get some advice on how to do this from the hive mind (preferably as part of a larger Action sequence). All my attempts so far have either resulted in smaller files getting blown up--which I don't want--or the image proportions getting distorted.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Actions won't record Export options

All I want to do is create an action that exports the open file as a 300ppi JPG and a 150ppi PNG (as separate actions) via the File > Export As menu. However, in the last year or so, the Record function doesn't seem to accept any menu commands anymore. Furthermore, Photoshop deleted all of my Classic actions that used to do all of this. The new "Insert Menu Item" only opens the menu dialog, but automates nothing within it, which doesn't really help me save any more time in the workflow than just clicking Export As in the first place, making it effectively pointless. Please help.

I need to be able to do big batch exports quickly and efficiently, and it seems Photoshop has taken that away with recent updates for some reason.

Selecting Raster Embeds

Is there a built in way for me to select JUST the embedded raster graphic(s) within my Adobe Illustrator file? I have a number of photos with vector labels overlayed upon them, and I want to build an action that exports them as SVGs. Unfortunately, the embedded photos are often too larger to upload the final SVG into other systems and so need to be rasterized down to 150ppi first. But to build that into an action, I need some automated way of selecting all of the embedded raster graphics. Is there a way to do that withing core Illustrator?

Disease Detection Device?

Exposure to diseases is not always obvious. Could this fulu be used as a poor man's detect disease, to alert a character to the fact that they've been exposed?

Items like these seem to rely on meta information to function and thus give away what would otherwise be secret information. Fulu burns away after that wolf bit you? Perhaps it was a werewolf. After the bard has a rowdy night at the inn? Mayhaps it's time to visit the local temple. Studying how a strange new disease is communicable? Now you have an OOPS! detector.

What are your thoughts on this and similar meta-dependent devices and how they might impact games and the larger narrative?

Precision Damage, Extra Damage, and Immunities

I'm playing a rogue with a ranged unarmed poison spit attack and equipped with astral handwraps of mighty blows.

So what happens if I spit poison at an off-guard undead creature?

The poison will do 0 damage, obviously, but are they still susceptible to the astral damage? Or are such runes considered rider effects that are dependent on the initial damage in order to work at all?

If the spirit damage goes through, is the precision damage from sneak attack then converted to the spirit damage type? Or is it converted to the poison damage type and thus negated as well?

Foil Senses limitations

If I have foil senses, and an enemy has low-light vision, can I hide in dim light from them? What about darkness and darkvision? Where do you draw the line with special senses and foil senses?

Filling up a spacious pouch

I've got an 11th-level monk with a spacious pouch II, and 45gp remaining (more if I sell something) in which to fill it with useful adventuring gear.

What should I buy to put in the bag? I'm thinking a whole bunch of mundane tools, outfits, and supplies, but I'm open to suggestions.

Am I just crazy or would this bother you too?

Discovered today that our party has some, *ahem* unique lore skills. It's one thing to omit "Lore" from a lore skill, but literally writing in what is essentially four lore skills in one? 😆

Am I just being overly neurotic, or would this bother you too? 😅

EDIT: Also, I'm not the GM.

Pro or Con: Necromancer thralls no longer block enemies

According to a recent article on the necromancer class, thralls no longer block enemies but instead act as difficult terrain. This is a HUGE change to the necromancer class' combat dynamic. It's a hell of a nerf, but also allows for so many other necromancer themed options to exist within the class power budget.

I guess that's why the developers are fine with 1st-level necromancers creating as many as 7 thralls in one round now.

I wonder if super thralls at higher levels will be solid enough to block foes?

It does better paint that classic undead scene of someone attempting to push or sneak through a herd only to suddenly find themselves completely surrounded, overwhelmed, and torn apart.

What do you all think?

Feed the herd!!! 👻

Edit: I tried linking the article when I initially made this post, but the automod blocked my attempts, saying the community policy prevented duplicate links over a given time period, and that link had already been posted recently. Now that enough times has passed, I'm editing this post to include the link, like it should have been from the beginning.

Can you combine Reflexive Stance with Battle Cry?

We all know you can only have one effect per trigger, such as "You roll initiative." But what about Reflexive Stance and Battle Cry?

Reflexive Stance clearly has a trigger of "You roll initiative.

However, Battle Cry doesn't have a trigger line. It instead says "When you roll initiative, you can..."

Should I take that to mean that the latter does not need to abide by the one trigger general rule, and that they can both be used more or less simultaneously on my monk?

Dragon Roar Immunity

The Dragon Roar monk feat says "Creatures in the area are then temporarily immune for 1 minute."

"Then" makes me think this immunity occurs after...something. But what?

After my roar?

After they are no longer frightened?

After my stance ends?

When does that immunity begin?

Cutting out excess strokes

I am attempting to make isometric grid guides that fill up the canvas, and cover JUST the canvas. Making a clipping mask fails completely when I convert the line segments into guides, so I need to find a way to cut away everything outside of the red rectangle. The Pathfinder tools don't seem to work either, as it just makes a bunch of triangles or super short line segments, which makes the grid way too resource intensive. The Shape Builder Tool only cuts paths through the grid, making it look like an anthill shot through with tunnels. Divide Objects Below only seems to work with shapes, not with line segments.

I've tried everything I can think of so now I'm turning to the hive mind: How can I remove everything outside the red bounds (including the bounds), while keeping the long, continuous line segments (that is, not adding a bunch of unnecessary points/segments) before converting the remaining isometric grid into guides?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Conditional Actions Based on Size

I'm trying to create an automated Action in which Photoshop proportionately reduces an image's size down to 1920px width, but ONLY if its width is greater than 1920px, otherwise it does nothing.

It's been frustrating since Adobe overhauled Photoshop's Action tools and I can't seem to find any way to tell it to check the current size.

It's been frustrating since Adobe overhauled Photoshop's Action tools and I can't seem to find any way to tell it to check the current size.

Below is a sample photo I took for testing on. Note that I plan on incorporating the action into a larger parent action, if that matters. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

How to get martial proficiency for monk?

What is the best way to get a monk scaling proficiency with martial weapons? I really wanted to make a Jedi-like character with the monk class and the mind smith archetype, but the lack of proficiency in the mind weapons is really holding back the concept I had in mind.
