Everything I try to make a roti or a paratha, they turn out to be very hard like a nacho. What am I doing wrong?

Moving into a new flat please help with transformation ideas for the hall/living area.
I’m thinking a cozy floor-seating/mattress and carpet setup. Any other ideas are also appreciated.
