Let’s start the Gorge memorial?

Can’t believe it’s already been a year. I remember my buddy picking me up to start our two day drive to WA like it was yesterday. When will I ever feel excitement like that again? Setting up camp at Wildhorse as the sun was already ducking below the horizon. Getting joints ganked by security at Gorge. Walking up hill with a head full of acid for what felt like hours just to get to the honeybuckets, only to feel the urge to piss again as soon as I got back to my spot. Life is sooooo good when those are your biggest problems.

Getting mesmerized by the UFO clouds as the galaxy gathered to watch Earth’s greatest artist perform his craft. Seeing homies I hadn’t seen in many years. Dancing in the grass in unbelievably good weather for July. Laying under the stars after getting Shpongled, and the first movie they play is some Pink Floyd (my #1 band)?!?! My first ambient set.

Happy 250th to America and all, but July 4th will be a Tipper holiday in my mind after that magical weekend. Hope to see your memories on here soon

When’s the last time

Anyone know the last time Simon played Room 23 live? Fav tune of mine and I’ve never caught it in almost 20 years of seeing him or I was too Shpongled to remember. He has played it right?

Vegetables: do I even need them?

I’ve been tapering off buprenorphine (an opiate Maintenance medication) for a few years and I’ve gotten my dose down to 1mg/day which I’ve been at for over a year now. My ibs has been more prominent since getting down to 1mg, which is considered a very very low dose (they don’t even make 1mg pills, I have to break my 2mg pills in half)

I’ve been cutting out vegetables from my diet over the last 7-8 years and now I only eat green beans and potatoes. Sometimes broccoli, but only 2-3 nights per month. When I have green beans or broccoli they are *very* well cooked. BMs usually start solid and end in diarrhea. On the days I cut out vegetables altogether, I’ll still eat some fruit (usually pineapple or mango). I’ll have some constipation the next day almost no diarrhea. I assume that slightly constipated BM would just be a normal BM if I wasn’t on any buprenorphine.

Should I just cutout vegetables altogether? I’ve given up almost all of them at this point. My diet is mainly chicken or beef, rice or bread, green beans or potatoes, and usually about 1 serving of fruit. Late night munchies are usually cookies. If I take multivitamins is there any reason I can’t just cutout vegetables from my diet? I don’t think potatoes are very detrimental to my bowels so I don’t think I’ll stop eating them completely. They’re also not known for being super nutritious though.

Has anyone just omitted vegetables completely from their diet and been fine from a nutritional standpoint? I’m not super well-versed in nutrition education, I just know what the standard recommendations are. Not sure if it makes any difference, but for context I’m an ectomorph and haven’t gained weight since I was a teenager and am now in my 30s.

Cloaked top 5: 120 days later

After many listens, I’ve finally nailed down my favorites on this album

Meadow Foam -
Hearing this live made me feel like I was dancing in a goopy matrix of vibrational ecstasy, even while sober. The texture of that bass really tickles the right spot.
And that last bass drop at the end… sheeeesh. Right when the song lulls you to sleep with that beautiful melody near the end, he hits you with one more bass drop: my favorite part of the entire album.
I love the place this tune goes, and it just stays in the pocket the entire duration and I wish it went on longer. It’s got that classic Tipper sound thats both wet and crunchy. One of those tunes that illuminates what a beautiful gift life is, and how words cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel towards it. Gun to my head id call it my favorite on Cloaked. It’s really a toss up with Scaffolder though.

Scaffolder-
Song titles don’t usually play any factor in my feelings towards them, but this one is so apt. Before I knew the title, when I was just hearing this live, I thought “this is what it would sound like if you were ushered into heaven by angels”. When Cloaked dropped I didn’t make the connection to that initial thought and the title. When it finally hit me I was like omg…he really fuckin knows what he’s doing.

First half of this tune is all about soaking in the bass, which is my core memory of this one live. It’s a simple enough bass line, but I just found it orgasmic live. Near the halfway point, it starts building (scaffolding?) and I started ascending. And it just keeps building for almost 2 min and by the end I’m so ridiculously high on these frequencies. I feel like I’m bathing in bass with the frequencies making my whole body tingle. On top of that, the rest of the frequencies are making my mind tingle. It really really has “it”.

Kites couldn’t even-
The mindbender of Cloaked imo, edging out even Dispacio for me. Tipper flexing big on this one. Songs like this is why I call Tipper the master of delay. The way he makes them all play and interact with each other is some next level producer shit. Overlooked this one a bit when Cloaked dropped and had it just outside my top 5, and it later became a top 3. Of all the songs on Cloaked, this is the one I would have wanted to watch him make more than any other. Kites scrambles my head like a sunuvabitch.

Meadow Foam>Scaffolder>Kites is Tipper’s best 3 in a row on any album imo. Narrowly beating out Permatemp>Fallow>Shelled. I’m currently still putting JMH as my favorite album overall, but given more time I think Cloaked could eventually become my favorite. If Cloaked ever does take top spot, it’s these 3 songs back to back to back that will be the reason why.

Magpies-
This tune is a little “one note” as far as Tipper songs go, and by that I mean: the feeling it evokes is just pure happy smiles the whole way through. I don’t feel a range of emotions like I do with most Tip tunes. Except the very end when that piano sounding synth comes in, indicating the journey that is Magpies is coming to a close.
It made me happy cry live at RR N2, and it did when the album first dropped. Over time though, I think all my album listens have sort of watered down my memories of hearing it live. When Cloaked was still fresh, Magpies and Meadow Foam brought me right back to Gorge and RR. Maybe it’s just because more time has passed since then, but I don’t get as easily transported to those moments in time when I listen to the album now. This one is such a good vibe and contains my favorite scratching on Cloaked. The squelching on the first scratches is wicked. No other song on Cloaked can put a bigger smile on my face than Magpies.

Preparations for Departure-
This one gives me goosebumps every time as long as the volume is turned up. The reverb on those vocally soundings snaps/clicks at the beginning and end send a shiver down my spine. The last 40seconds in particular.

This song also stands out among the rest because it’s dominated by descending melodies whereas the others are predominantly ascending melodies, or wobbling back and forth. When I noticed this, the title “Preparations for Departure” took on a different meaning than my first assumption. Initially that title made me think “preparing to depart” as in leaving this plane of reality via music/psychedelics. That’s how I view my time leading up to a trip. In my mind, that would imply an impending ascension.

I don’t know when he first produced this track, I just know it was released on Feb 13, 2024 (supposedly his birthday) which is not long before he announced his retirement. This, along with those descending melodies, makes me think perhaps this song is in reference to him preparing to depart/retire from performing. Descending from his throne on stage. Perhaps I’m reading too much into it all. Regardless it makes this song even more poetic to me.

So after 4 months, the only thing that’s changed from my initial top 5 is swapping in Kites Couldn’t Even over Wookstock. You’ve probably heard me say it before but this album just hit right away, no break in period necessary. My feelings haven’t changed much since its release. It’s a banger top to bottom and is definitely the album I would recommend to anyone who’s never heard Tipper before. I really needed this one after his retirement and the world seemed bleak. Grateful af for it

Is it just me, or is Shant…?

For those of you that LOVE Marble Hunting, where would you say something like Shant ranks compared to tunes on that album? Would Shant even be classified as the same Tipper-type-tune as the tracks on Marble Hunting?

I love uptempo Tipper live (not as much as downtempo, except RR2015…I fully give that uptempo set the nod over the downtempo set that evening). I LOVE the 2010s EPs. I love Relish the Trough. I thought my ear was finally catching on at the beginning of this year when I was retrying Marble hunting, but it didn’t stick. I love Mason and Deal w it VIP, but overall it’s not an album I want to press play on. It doesn’t make me question my fandom, but I almost feel like an imposter saying im a fan of “uptempo” tipper when I see how much love marble hunting gets and I don’t feel the same.

So to those of you that love Marble Hunting: is it just me, or is Shant is miles ahead of anything on Marble Hunting? I feel that an uptempo album of tunes like Shant could easily make me rethink my whole downtempo>uptempo thing. In the meantime I’m left wondering what, in technical terms, separates Marble Hunting/Wobble Factor from all the other uptempo Tipper releases that I really love.

New Snilk alert - Mind Travel Time Control EP

You’ll recognize if you’re familiar with the end of year 24 or infrasound mix. Overall sounds more experimental, less “organic” or “natural” (for lack of a better word) than previous releases. Slaps hard af. Really love that last track in particular. Crank it ✌️

New Boards…of Canada

There aren’t many artists getting me harder with a new album drop than BoC, especially after such a craaazy long hiatus that had many thinking they were done. After 13 years of waiting…This is almost tipper level happiness for me.

Prolly not the uptempo peeps thing. It sounds like old BoC, but also sounds like new BoC. The guitar in it reminds me of All India Radio. Full album drop end of May can’t Fn wait.

For any youngins that aren’t familiar, these are legends of electronic music. Although they’re not like any other artist that gets recommended on the Tipper sub, they deserve your attention for a moment.

Right after this track/twenty five album released, someone here said it was already one of their fav Tipper tracks. I suggested that might be recency bias. To you: I apologize. I thought it was a banger off the rip, and I played the shit out of it, but i wasn’t ranking it among my absolute favs.

The more I listen to this track, the more I love it. It recently became one of those tear jerker Tipper tracks for me. I did not see that coming when it first dropped. It just keeps getting better wtf
