❗Weekly X-Half Challenge #9: Embrace the Grain
Another week, another challenge!
Last week, we explored “Doors”. This week’s theme: Embrace the Grain.
This one is about accepting (or exaggerating) what many try to avoid: grain/noise, texture, imperfection.
From film days to digital sensors, grain has always been part of photography: sometimes seen as a flaw, sometimes as character. In this challenge, we want you to lean into it: push your ISO, use different film simulations, use the grain option, shoot in low light, or simply choose scenes where the grain adds mood, emotion, or texture to the image.
It doesn’t have to be technically perfect. It can be a high-ISO night shot, a moody street scene, a portrait with visible grain, or a quiet moment where texture makes the photo feel more raw and real. What matters is that the grain contributes to the feeling of the image, not just appears by accident.
❗How to participate & some rules:
- Make a post with your photo in which the title has the following information:
- #9: Embrace the Grain - (Your Photo Title);
- Choose the Weekly Challenge flair;
- Any film simulation is allowed;
- You can use the Grain Effect or just High ISO: it's up to you how to add noise, but the noise must be created SOOC and not in post editing;
- Any style is welcome (street, landscape, documentary, portrait, etc.);
- Feel free to add a short caption or context about your photo (location, story, idea, etc.).
Ready? Show us your take on Doors. Have a great week everyone!
