CD reboot; start of my collection
Greetings to the community here; just got back into CDs about two weeks ago and my initial focus was to cobble back together all of my Nine Inch Nails albums with some other stuff I wasn’t able to own as a youth for reasons. Happy with what I’ve amassed here and I have a few more albums arriving this week; Heriot’s new album, HEALTH’s Conflict DLC, and Holywood to round out that trio of albums.
Genuinely love going to bed at night choosing one album to sit with; just hits differently.
Highway to “L”
The “L”s from my rock and pop collection. See any you like?
Does anyone know anything about this CD?
Hi there, I originally posted this on r/newzealand and r/chch, but I thought I'd ask over here too. (I'll just copy and paste my previous posts)
For some context, I live in the UK and a couple days ago while I was out I starting digging through an old box of CDs that was outside a record shop and I came across something called Mitsuki and the Headless Seahorses, dated circa 2005, recorded at Little River, New Zealand.
It looked really cool, the artwork on it is quite nice. It looks like it was the project of a band that never really went anywhere so I brought it home to investigate it further. I didn't know it at the time but almost all of the songs on it are covers of old folk reels or waltzes, all very short. All of the music on the CD combined barely lasts over 8 minutes.
But I'm more interested in exactly who made it. The liner notes credit four people: Peter, Emily, Rowan and Jonty. None of their last names are written out, but what was written was the studio that it was recorded at: Kahikatea Studios. Googling that however points to a Music Therapy/Charity group that as far as I can tell was founded in 2018. Given that the album was supposedly recorded in 2005, that makes me think the two might not be related. I did email the charity yesterday asking if they knew about it or knew anyone who would be able to help, as of right now I haven't heard back (and honestly, I doubt they will message me back. If anything, why should they help a stranger from a completely different country out on something that doesn't really matter?)
So all I'm asking is if anyone out there knows anything about this CD, if they know one of the people who worked on it. I'd love to know why this thing was made and more importantly, how on earth did it get from New Zealand all the way to the UK?
Thank you for taking the time to read!
Edit: decided to rip and upload the audio on the CD, you can listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJjxfBn8XfE
If you’ve lived this picture and can recall the sounds, smell, and vibe there…..
Nice packaging on this cd. Debossed inner sleeve and translucent vellum inserts.
Closer by Plastikman.
How can I tell if a signed cd insert is legit?
So I just bought my first ever cd from a thrift store near me and I didn’t even realize until a few days later that the insert was signed. Wondering if anyone has any tips or info about this specific album or in general to tell if signatures are legit.
Coolest CD packaging ever…
What an awesome physical version of an album. Props to Lorde for putting together such a cool package. It’s just the standard version too, not any sort of deluxe…
I found this CD at my local record store, anyone ever seen this before? I believe it's a bootleg.
Pickups This Week
Most are from local Half Price Books though some are from Amazon because I had some gift cards.
Is stacking cds bad?
Hi, new collecter here. I'm trying to optimize my cd storage, by storing as many cds in as small of space as possible. For now I'm using this old shelf, and I just stacked everything. I'm wondering if there's a better solution to this possibly? Idk if stacking them this high is a bad thing as it can get kind of heavy.
Super cool 2-disc haggus compilation with 101 tracks
A bunch of old songs from EPs and splits that aren't on streaming. A lot of people don't like haggus but I love it
Soundtracks and movie music
I’m always picking up soundtrack albums, usually cheap, plentiful and they always seem to be well recorded. Some just for the famous composers, I haven’t seen the movies of a lot of them. Anyone the same? See a favorite?
If you store your CDs alphabetically, what's the last CD on your shelf?
Just a random question for fun
