My ONEXGPU2 has just "failed".

It's been 2 weeks since I got my onexgpu 2. It was all great on paper. As a beginner though I did not do enough research into the tradeoffs of using all-in-one egpu boxes. They are rife with firmware/driver issues.

My laptop is a lenovo thinkbook g16 with an intel ultra 225H. It's fairly niche product, and it has many tradeoffs - one of them being the fact that the iGPU is integrated as a part of the CPU chipset itself and is therefore very difficult to troubleshoot when there is an incompatibility.

Within 2 weeks of using my onexgpu2 it began to malfunction, so I figured I'd check for driver updates. There was indeed a driver update on the AMD adrenalin software. It failed to install multiple times. By the time I tried to a fresh uninstall and reinstall, my eGPU began failing to function entirely. Now just plugging in the TB4 cable makes my eGPU shut down.

I wish I knew how sensitive eGPUs could be when it came to driver updates.

When I connect my TB4 cable to my laptop from my eGPU, the eGPU just shuts off.

Ever since a failed driver update, something has gone wrong with my thunderbolt 4 drivers. Everytime I hook the TB4 cable from my eGPU my EGPU just fails and switches off. I can't turn it back on again until I disconnect and reconnect its powerblock.

I know my TB4 cable is not to blame because it detects my phone and transfers things to my phone just fine.

It seems to be a driver issue with thunderbolt 4 on my laptop and not an issue with the eGPU itself. I'm currently using a lenovo thinkbook g16, but support for it is terrible at best. There is no dedicated thunderbolt 4 driver and it's somehow "integrated" into the iGPU. AI sucks at answering questions and keeps on hallucinating things that are not for my model.

Has anybody experienced a similar issue?

EDIT: the egpu is ONEXGPU2 rx7800m

My EGPU is not being detected properly.

I am using an intel lenovo thinkbook G16. It's model is 21SK009VKR.
I purchased the ONEXGPU 2 (RX7800M) not too long ago. When I first connected it, it sort of worked out of the box. AMD driver related software was installing by itself.

Recently however upon trying to update my AMD driver, there was an issue. The update refused to install and, my computer crashed.

When I reboot my computer, not only was my device no longer being recognized in the device manager as a display device but only showing up as an unknonw device in "device manager", because my computer does not detect my eGPU as a display device any more, I can't install AMD drivers to begin with - since AMD drivers require a display device detection to be installed.

Has anybody had a similar problem? I'm really stuck. AI has been of no help and have kept telling my that my eGPU is physically faulty which I find to be unlikely, since it was working just fine until yesterday. And when I hook up my TB4 the lights do come on on my eGPU.

Does anybody actually believe Warsh will be really be harsh?

Looking at the bond market and the stock market, the crypto market - marekts in general, I'm not really seeing serious moves that's pricing in a rate hike. In other words I think the market is largely calling BS on Warsh's hawkish talk. What do you guys think? Do you think he'll defy expectations and double down on his rate hike policy? Or will he chicken out and just go by the established book, proceeding to cut rates aggressively and refilling their backend repo?

Legion 9i 10th Gen owners, how would you review your unit so far?

I am currently wondering if I should get the legion pro 7i or the legion 9i, but I am on the fence because I have heard mixed reviews about the 9i. Mainly the following

  1. Cooling is slightly superior on the 9i but due to higher power draw, it's more or less equally hot and loud as the pro 7i.

  2. The 18 inch 3840/1920p resolution seems to be in an odd spot to me, because I can only I am either forced to play games with DLSS and frame gen, or just play with 1920p resolution comfortably, whereas the pro 7i seems to have the sweet spot with 2560p.

  3. I have heard that with HDR enabled, the IPS screen on the 9i is very close to an OLED screen, and comes without the obvious long term worries like burn-in, and having to constantly down-regulate brightness because of that concern. However, some people said that because the IPS screen is glossy and not matte, I might as well as just get OLED screen on the 16 inch pro 7i and save money.

  4. I actually am not going to do much AI work so I don't need 128gb ram or 4tb+ SSDs. I only need 64GB ram and 2tb SSD for my needs, so the upgrade slots on the 9i is pointless for me.

  5. I have heard that the 9i is noticeably cooler and quieter than the pro 7i. Youtube reviewers have identified the 9i keyboard temps to be about 2C cooler than the pro 7i, which is really hardly a difference.

What can you say about the legion 9i? Would you say I'm being too worried? Would you say it was an overrated laptop? Do you regret your purchase? Should I just wait another 12 to 18 months hoping for a RTX 60 series 11th gen release?

Is it just me or does CIV 7 feel like a glorified TEMU experience?

I really love the civilization series and have been playing it for god knows how long. Since civ 4 to 6 I have spent hours upon hours playing and modding the game. But when I tried civ 7 recently, I was so disappointed. My honest, unfiltered reception was that the game just felt like the game was created with a hypercorporate mindset, where they just looked at other titles in the market and what other businesses are doing and simply decided to copy them, hoping it would be a conservative benchmark simply because some intern's report. Like what feels like a half-assed attempt to copy humankind, and the utilization of AI.

Why couldn't they just take a look at what the community has already produced over the years in the form of overhauls and submods? Realism Invictus is so content rich it's still by far the most detailed overhaul ever made for a civ game. Civ 5's Vox Populi overhaul has gotten so many updates and improvements with innovative systems and designs. Even Civ 6, despite being the buggier of the previous two titles with several bugs and performance issues that still plague it to this day, has a host of well crafted mods.

If the creators took inspiration from even a 10% of what was freely available out there on their own games, I would imagine creating a legacy title with good performance and a swath of features serving as a good foundation for further mods should have been low hanging fruit.

I understand that they may have been trying to copy the strategy of paradox titles, releasing extremely basic titles meant only to provide a barebones but sturdy engine for the community to mod to their liking and for the actual flesh of the game to be developed with active feedback and released as dlcs over a long period of time.

But still, I cannot help but feel like the title was filled with missed potential.

Even now I would rather play a modded civ 5 game, and that's saying a lot considering it's a 32 bit title severely hamstrung by memory constraints.
