Is 85k enough for buying a mirrorless camera and lens as a gift?

I am planning to bring the giftee to a camera store with a wide selection or mirrorless cameras. She used to have a DSLR but it broke and haven't used it for almost 5 years now.

I don't have any expertise in the photography hobby but did my best to shortlist potential options like the Sony A6400 + Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lens. We also tried a demo unit of the A6400 with the original kit lens, and she got excited about the idea of finally taking photos again. So at least my gift idea is in the right direction. I read online that the kit lens is not that good and better buy a separate versatile lens like the Sigma.

I have budgeted around 85k for this gift. Is this enough?

Also, is it a good idea to bring her to a camera store with demo units to see what she actually likes? I'm worried my current budget is not enough for other options.

Thank you in advance everyone!

What are other alternatives to Kobo Clara and Libra under $200?

I was planning to buy a Kobo Clara or Libra after sitting it out for half a year. Upon checking current pricing in my region, it increased a lot in price that I'm not sure if its price to performance ratio still holds up. For context here are local reseller pricing (converted to USD for quick reference):

Clara BW/Colour : $200/$230

Libra: $280

I am looking at two options right now:

  1. Buy it from the USA via freight forwarding (around $20-$25 fee).

  2. Find other options that are at par in price and performance of Kobo Clara and Libra.

Other locally available brands are Boox, Kindle, Bigme, Obook, Pocketbook Xteink, Chinese brands are also easy to acces from ecommerce.

P.S

Not considering used as the used Kobo prices locally are $20-30 cheaper than local brand new prices.

What pc components suit best for a H61M-DS2 motherboard?

From my search it is a DDR3 LGA1155 motherboard. My dad found it sealed from the box we had when we last moved (2014). He used to build and repair PCs for a living but long story he stopped around the same year. I wanted to build him a pc using this relic from his past as a gift for fathers day. However, I'm not sure what components I need to buy.

Budget: less than $300

Usage: Web browsing, listening to music, watching movies

Thank you!

If I already have the budget to build now, should I wait until I actually need the PC?

Hi everyone, need some advice.

I already have the budget to build a PC now, and I’ve been planning/spec-ing parts for a while. The thing is, I don’t urgently need the PC yet more like I know I’ll eventually(in 6 months) need it for work which needs high vram and system ram. Currently, I still have access to dedicated GPU server for the next 6 months.

Would it make more sense to:

Build now

Or wait until I actually need it in case prices go down?

My concern is that if I build now, the market might correct itself in 6 months time. I have been seeing news motherboard sales are down.

For those who were in the same situation, did you regret building early or waiting too long?

Would appreciate your thoughts especially considering pricing trends and availability.

My planned build is either a 3090 am5 32gb ram (approx. 2.3k usd) build or a 5060ti 16gb am5 32gb ram (approx. 1.8k usd) build.

Is a brand new msi suprim x 3090 for $1000 worth the price for AI/ML tasks?

I originally planned for 5060ti 16gb and it is priced 600 usd from where i am from. The 4090 and 5090 are out of reach for me as they are priced around 2500 to 3800 usd.

I scoured the market place for lightly used 3090 and it is 1200 usd. There are used 3090 builds and it is around 1500 usd.

I found a brand new msi suprim x 3090 sitting on the shelf of a store and it is 1000 usd. Is this worth the price? Planning to use it for AI/ML tasks.

Would love to hear expert feedback on this. Thanks!

P.S I made a mistake converting from local currency to usd. The 4090 and 5090 are between 2500 to 3800 .
