Where are they now?

I think Cass left that town and stayed gone. She’s in LA, working as a teacher at a public school. She coaches the softball team and helps kids get into college. She’s divorced with one kid, but on good terms with her ex. They share custody.

Rockford came out in NYC. Does Pride every year, but took a break when things got very commercial in the 2010s. She still shows up for the Dyke March though. She actually got that music supervisor job, had it for five years, then hated how commercial it was. Now she takes a smaller paycheck to work on small and medium sized indies. Sometimes she thinks about taking a swing at A24 films.

Her sister is her best friend, who ended up getting cast in a Broadway show as a chorus member, then moved up to swing, then landed a large supporting role. She got married and lives in Harlem, in a brownstone she renovated herself.

Van does soundtrack composition now, as well as experimental music. He has a weird side project that tours around the country. Maybe he was a burner for a while until that got a bit too mainstream. Now he’s on Berlin, working on building the scene there.

Jenny Fucking Goodspeed stayed in town, married pretty young, had three kids, and runs the PTA. She probably coined the term “wine mom”

Facebook came around and they all found each other. Rockford apologized for bailing on their trip, and in their early 20s they got back together to do the whole trip again, the right way.

Who's going to Brooklyn??

Just got my tickets. AXS is an annoying AF website that punted me out multiple times, but I figured it out. Thank god I have a laptop, a desktop, and a phone. The phone finally worked. Haha

Seeya at the show!

Used pedal buyers, check your settings!

So I started with Amplitube and Tonex software and loved how it sounded. I wanted to take Tonex with me wherever I went, so I got the full sized pedal used. Got an amazing deal on it. ($80 after trading in some old gear)

I didn’t factory reset the pedal when I got it, because I was curious what the last guy did. For months I could never quite get the same quality tones out of my pedal as I could the software, even when it was the same presets set the same way.

Then I did a deep dive into the pedal’s settings. It turned out that the last guy had both the input gain and the pedal volume absolutely maxed out. I don’t mean the stuff you control with the knobs on the face of the pedal. I mean the input gain and the pedal volume in the global settings of the pedal itself.

This made everything sound woofier and uglier than it should’ve. (The guy was only running metal presets on the pedal - I should’ve known he dimed everything he could.)

Once I turned it down, the pedal sounded basically identical to the presets in the software in my DAW.

So for used pedal buyers! Check your settings! You might be a few knob turns away from the perfect sound!

EDIT: The setting you want to change is "TRIM IN" not the input gain. You can access it via the global settings menu.

Try F# standard!

So Gretsch released those sick new Loathe endorsed baritones but I don’t have $600 laying around for a new guitar. But I have a project that’s going to require some chuggy growling down tuned guitar.

I’ve been trying to force my Jackson JS-227 into F# to B tuning and not having a ton of luck - the nut needs filing and I don’t have $75 for a setup right now. It’s not really playable in that tuning, as is.

But my Bass VI’s nut is cut perfectly for Fender 100-24 strings. And still feels slightly floppy in E standard. But tuning it up for F# standard lets me get the growling chugs I want, and adds a lot of string tension. It also makes playing full barre chords sound a lot less muddy. I have a hard tail from Herad (highly recommended) so down tuning doesn’t mess with my trem setup (because there is no trem!)

Definitely worth trying for someone looking for a bit of a sonic adventure.
