Laika - Aged Through Blood is beautiful, but it was a pain to complete

I knew from the start that controls were weird, but I like experimental games (Dandara is one of my GOATs, and I really enjoyed Yoku Island Express). But I don't think that motorcycle controls really mesh well with Metroidvania exploration, especially if you mix "Trials" movement with "Hotline Miami" one shot kill.

I think both Trials and HM work well because they are stage-based. Now imagine having to backtrack from point A to point B, and you still have to deal with challenging physics based platforming and enemies that actually grow in numbers the more you go on and will kill you in one hit.

Add to that the wide world and sparse fast travel points, and you'll spend an ungodly amount of time just to reach places you need to be. And corpse runs of course...

Another terrible thing are sidequests. Most of them add NOTHING to the game. Some important ones add important plot beats, but most of them are go to this place, get item, come back. They don't tell you exactly where the item is, so you're stuck wandering, and then you give the item and they reward you with stuff like 4 pieces of Wood, of which you already have hundreds.

I think the game is fine if you just want to finish it and follow the plot. It has a really engaging story and world, plus it's really beautiful to look at. But be prepared to smash your head repeatedly if you want to see everything it has to offer. I'm kinda sad because this game is clearly made with great care and passion, but it's incredibly frustrating.

Incredible showcase at a Speedrun Event in Italy. Two runners both complete Pantheon 5 All Bindings live

And then one of the runners just obliterates Any Radiance first try.

You can see it around 07h57m mark

It's the first time I've seen a live showcase put on something as risky as a P5AB. They actually wanted it to be R5AB (so no hits taken) but they got hit a couple of times. Still, a stellar performance

I have already played it on Xbox, but going to probably double dip for the Platinum. An amazing Metroidvania, one of the best of 2024, and maybe ever
