Japanese Trailer / Kane to Visit Japan

Japanese Trailer / Kane to Visit Japan

A new Japanese trailer has been posted by A24 Japan which includes an introduction by Kane Parsons. The trailer includes a couple of scenes that weren’t originally featured on any of the English trailers.

The social media posts accompanying the trailer also included an announcement that Kane would be visiting Japan for the first time to promote the film. No date for the visit or where he would be appearing has been announced as yet.

How many times have you seen Backrooms in the Cinemas?

I posted a topic like this a couple of weeks after the movie came out. But it’s now in its 11th week so I’d like to know if there are others out there who have seen the movie several times / many times in the cinemas.

I’ve seen it 32 times (which includes the Everything Must Go edition 10 times).

I realize the number of times I’ve seen it may seem excessive to many but I truly love this movie and it resonates with me. Going to see it many times is something I really enjoy doing. I’m going to be a little sad when it goes off in the cinemas TBH (it’s actually gone off in most cinemas where I am but we have an awesome independent cinema in my city that tends to show A24 movies for longer than other places do).

I did buy the digital version too but whenever I watch it, it just seems lacking. Watching it on a small screen with average sound really does not compare at all with the cinema experience.

And please no putting me or others down. This is a thread for being positive about our Backrooms movie experience!

Was Barbara meant to have a more visible role in the movie?

The only time we see Barbara is in the photo that Clark had on the nightstand in the shop and on the wall of the dining room in the Backrooms.

But her actress is credited in the credits. Which makes me wonder if she was originally meant to have a role where we see her in more than just a photo.

Backrooms does have a few non-speaking actors listed in the credits which not all movies include. But including someone who is only in a photo makes me wonder if there was something more planned for Barbara (whether a scene was actually filmed or whether it’s was removed before filming).

The Fly

Has anyone noticed the fly that seems to follow Mary around?

It follows her into Cap’n Clark’s. And then it no-clips through the wall down in the basement.

But that’s not the end of it. It’s with her when she enters the Backrooms. It takes a detour and hangs out around the severed hand near the stop sign. I’m pretty sure it’s with her on the hallways at some point. Then we see it land on her shoulder in front of the mural as she finds / talks to Clark.

It makes sense that it’s in the basement as it’s how she notices there’s something up with the wall that is a null zone. But it just seems to be hanging around for more time than it should be.

Maybe Mary has a bad case of BO and it’s attracting the fly. She fell asleep in her clothes the night she hears Clark on her answering machine. And then she’s wearing the same clothes when she goes to the store. Like she didn’t even shower or anything. 🤷‍♀️

It’s been a Month since Backrooms was Released

I can’t believe that the Backrooms has been out for a month now.

As someone who has seen the movie multiple times (I haven’t come across anyone who has seen it as many times in the cinemas), I still find it as amazing as when I first saw it. The way it resonates with me. The production values. The Backrooms being bought to life on the big screen is something that many of us can never forget.

And the movie has gone beyond all expectations. Breaking opening weekend records, A24 records, horror records, and even being the #1 movie in the world for that first week. I still find it surreal that it was #1. A lot of us thought it would go well, but we didn’t expect it to reach the numbers it did.

It may be unpopular opinion, but I’m a little frustrated that Obsession came out at the same time because what Backrooms achieved would have had it at the top of many more achievements if it weren’t for that movie. Obsession of course is a great movie too, but as a hardcore Backrooms fan, I just wish it had come out at another time and not at the same time as its kinda overshadowed Backrooms in a way.

And I’m sad that the theatrical run may be coming to an end with a possible digital date being talked about as I don’t want the movie to leave cinemas. I know it will happen eventually, but it just seems too soon. As once it goes off the big screen we won’t be able to experience it that way anymore.

But not to forget what Kane has achieved with this movie. I’m so happy for him and proud of what he has done. It’s an amazing start to his movie career and I can’t wait to see what else he does in the future.

Either way, the Backrooms movie will always hold such a special place for me. I’ve seen it more times than any other movie in the cinemas. It continues to take up space sent free in my head (although so does many things Backrooms).

Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition – Coming July 3

Theaters in the US will begin screening a “Everything Must Go” edition of the Backrooms movie from July 3rd. It will feature theater exclusive 15 minutes of bonus footage from Kane Parsons.

It is unknown at this point whether it will be a post-movie scene, behind the scenes footage or a Director’s Cut. One of the cinemas included an updated synopsis which mentioned it being “post-credits” which points to it perhaps not being a Director’s Cut.

This info has only been listed by some cinemas in the US at this time so it is not known whether this edition will be shown in all US theaters or whether it will have an international release. We’ll have to wait for the offical A24 announcement.

(First pic not official just using it for the post)

The Backrooms: Where I’m Meant to Be

I done this edit to make 12 months of being obsessed with The Backrooms. It’s kinda just a simple Photoshop edit.

I’m one of those people who feel the Backrooms resonate with me and see it as not just horror (although I do enjoy the horror side too). I often get feelings of belonging and wanting to be there when I see image or watch videos.

What I couldn’t believe though is that in the movie, Clark says something that is almost identical to this. His version is “I’m right where I’m supposed to be.“

(My version is something I started saying a few months after I got into The Backrooms and started realising the connections I was feeling).

Async Equipment

I’ve been wondering if Clark ends up coming across the table with the radio and equipment on it that we see at the beginning (or any of the large lock boxes).

I mean he tells Mary that he had been there every night since he discovered the place and the map shows quite a few areas too. So we don’t see a lot of what he explores.

But it also seems like Async might have removed all of that equipment and stashed the discs and stuff in the bag with Naren’s ID.

If they had packed up the equipment cause the area was now deemed dangerous why not take the bag with them too instead of stashing it. Seems unusual that it would have been hidden like that.

Finally a huge Backrooms Poster!

I’m in a country where Backrooms posters are rare. Even in the cinemas some of them still don’t have them up now the movie is out. And they didn’t exist at all before the movie came out.

So I was super excited to see this huge poster advertising Backrooms in the mall where one of my favourite independent cinemas is located.

It’s in a high traffic area where people have to pass to go grocery shopping and to access the carpark. So lots of people will notice it. They have a permanent advertising space there for movies but I didn’t expect to see a Backrooms one!

(It is a bit amusing to me that it says “coming to” and it’s after the date - as I was at their first session of Backrooms and had been to 2 other sessions there but the poster wasn’t there then. Maybe there was a delay in it getting printed.)

Unused Mark Duplass Scene

This was the very first set leak of Backrooms and is has been all over the internet ever since. We saw Mark Duplass before it was even announced that he’d be in the movie.

But there’s no scene even closely resembling it.

Where do people think this scene might have occurred?

Of course scenes get cut from movies all the time. Hopefully we’ll get to see it on a deleted scenes section of the Blu-Ray.

How Many Times? (Repost)

I’m wondering if anyone out there is has seen Backrooms multiple times (as in like 3 times plus). And how many times do people intend to see it?

I’ve currently seen it 10 times now. Probably going to be slowing down now that it’s been a week but the worst thing is I’m actually going to miss seeing it daily because I really love this movie.

I’m aiming to see it 19 times actually. It’s a personal thing. My current record seeing a movie in the cinema is 17 times with Cloverfield. And while I still love that movie, Backrooms not only became my new favourite when I saw it the first time, but also because I’m Backrooms obsessed I really want it to hold the record. And I also increased it to 19 because someone suggested I go for 19 to represent “2019”.

Even though I’ve seen it all those times, it’s so Backrooms for me. It’s familiar of course as I know what will happen. But I also feel the uneasy feelings knowing what is going to happen (not really uneasy about the liminal spaces as I’m sitting there in awe and happiness when I see them as it mirrors how I feel about liminal spaces IRL).

——

(I’ve had to repost this because there were multiple people being nasty to me about my appearance as I made a stupid decision to add a photo of me cause I just got my Cap’n Clark’s shirt and thought it be relevant. It took me many years to find confidence to post photos of myself online as I suffer mental health issues and as a teen I had a slight eating disorder. The comments I was receiving are very triggering to me, one in particular was really bad. I’m actually in tears and on the verge of leaving this sub.

We are all supposed to be fans of the same thing but people for some reason don’t want to talk about the movie but instead put another down for something that isn’t even relevant to the topic. I’d even get it if people wanted to make negative comments about being an obsessive fan cause of how many times I’ve seen the movie. But nope, it’s all about the superficiality of appearance. I really didn’t expect this in this fandom as until now it had always been welcoming towards me.

I was planning on posting pics of my chevron steampunk outfit that I wore to the premiere in my country. But not so sure now if I will - or if I do I’ll censor my face).

How Many Times? (Seen / Intending to See)

I’m wondering if anyone out there is has seen Backrooms multiple times (as in like 3 times plus). And how many times do people intend to see it?

I’ve currently seen it 7 times and going to see it again tonight for #8. Probably going to be doing it daily for a week and then will slow down.

The #1 Movie in the World

We did it! We absolutely did it Backrooms fans! 💛💛

I look at this image and I just can’t believe it.

$118M worldwide / $81.4M US (figures not released for Sunday yet)

I had hoped Backrooms was going to go well but I never thought it would achieve this, especially a week after a Star Wars film which usually hang into top spot for a few weeks.

I know it’s not just us fans as there’s A24 fans and horror fans and regular movie goers too. But Deadline Hollywood were estimating the fan audience at around 50%.

But most of all I’m so happy for Kane. And proud of his team and everyone involved. It’s a wonderful start to his career. It’s a true story of someone being able to achieve something special.

Backrooms: The Review (No Spoilers)

As a Backrooms fan I went into this with high expectations. I’m a fan of not just Kane Parsons’ Backrooms series but also other iterations such as the Extended Wiki Lore and the Original Concept. So I was setting the bar very high.

And that bar didn’t disappoint. After around 30 seconds I had tears in my eyes. Not because of anything emotional on screen that early, but because seeing the Backrooms on the big screen was — as Clark says — beautiful. It was everything I’d hoped they would be snd more. Those mono-yellow walls and the hum-buzz lights. I couldn’t believe I was finally seeing it. And seeing the original location from the photo recreated … that meant a lot to me as a fan of all things Backrooms.

As we know from the trailers, the movie is a mix of found footage and cinematic scenes — although more of the latter. Both worked extremely well and the transitions between the two felt natural. The color grading was gorgeous — both in the Backrooms and out. Even the lower quality of the found footage sections still looked amazing on the big screen as they felt authentic.
