Scientists Reveal That Eating Almonds Every Day Could Transform Your Gut, Metabolism, and Appetite

Highlights:

- A new controlled feeding study found that replacing processed snacks with a daily serving of almonds may improve gut health, metabolism, and appetite regulation.

- Researchers observed an increase in Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, a beneficial gut bacterium that produces butyrate, a compound that supports the colon lining and may help reduce inflammation.

- Several less favorable gut bacteria decreased during the almond-snacking phase.

- Almond consumption increased GLP-1 and peptide YY, two hormones associated with fullness and appetite control. GLP-1 is also the hormone targeted by drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.

- The study suggests almonds may help improve metabolic homeostasis and reduce inflammatory markers.

- Almonds provide fiber, healthy fats, protein, magnesium, vitamin E, and polyphenols, all of which may contribute to gut and cardiometabolic health.

- Researchers emphasized that replacing unhealthy snacks with almonds is likely more beneficial than simply adding almonds on top of an already calorie-heavy diet.

- The study was relatively small, so while the findings are promising, larger studies are still needed. Funding came from the Almond Board of California, though researchers stated the funder did not influence the analysis.

I’m running into a WooCommerce cart issue and I’m trying to narrow down whether it’s ShopEngine, WooCommerce fragments, or caching.

Behavior:

  1. Add a product to cart
  2. Go to the cart page
  3. The plus button works
  4. The minus button does not work
  5. If I click “Update Cart” without changing anything, the minus button immediately starts working normally

So the minus button does not work on the initial cart page load. It only starts working after the cart form is refreshed by the Update Cart button.

Setup:

  • WordPress
  • WooCommerce
  • Elementor Pro
  • ShopEngine Pro
  • Hello Elementor theme
  • SiteGround hosting
  • SiteGround Optimizer
  • CookieYes
  • Rank Math

Cart page is built with a ShopEngine cart template, not the default WooCommerce cart.

Example cart quantity markup:

<div class="shopengine-cart-quantity">
  <span data-min="0" class="minus-button">−</span>
  <span data-max="-1" class="plus-button">+</span>
  <div class="quantity">
    <input type="number" class="input-text qty text" value="2" min="0" step="1">
  </div>
</div>

Console currently only shows:

script.js:1 Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 ()
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 3.4.1

JQMIGRATE seems normal. The 403 appears to be from CookieYes, but I’m not seeing any obvious WooCommerce, Elementor, or ShopEngine JavaScript errors.

Things I’ve checked or tried:

  • Cleared browser and SiteGround cache
  • Confirmed the issue is not product minimum quantity
  • Confirmed the plus button works on initial load
  • Confirmed the minus button starts working immediately after clicking Update Cart

My suspicion is that ShopEngine’s cart quantity script is not initializing the minus button correctly on initial cart page load, but it does initialize properly after WooCommerce refreshes the cart form.

Has anyone seen this with ShopEngine cart templates? Is this more likely a ShopEngine JS initialization issue, a WooCommerce cart fragment issue, or a caching/minification conflict?

(FYI: The above text was generated by ChatGPT using the information it had gathered while trying to help me troubleshoot the issue)

Highlights:
- Scientists developed a new method to turn plastic waste into clean fuel using sunlight, aiming to tackle both plastic pollution and energy needs at the same time.
- The process uses special light-activated materials (called photocatalysts) to break down plastics into useful outputs like hydrogen fuel, syngas, and industrial chemicals.
- It works at relatively low temperatures and can require less energy than traditional methods, because plastics are easier to break down than water.
- Hydrogen is a key product since it’s a clean fuel that produces no emissions when used.
- Researchers have already produced promising results in the lab, including steady fuel production over long periods and creation of useful byproducts like acetic acid and fuel-like hydrocarbons.
- Major challenges remain, including handling mixed plastic waste, improving catalyst durability, and efficiently separating the final products.
- The technology is still early-stage, but if scaled successfully, it could turn plastic trash into a valuable energy resource and support a more sustainable, circular economy.

Highlights:
- Researchers found many previously unknown compounds in cannabis, especially in the leaves, which are usually overlooked or discarded
- They identified 79 phenolic compounds in total, including 25 that had never been reported in cannabis before
- Among these were 16 rare compounds called flavoalkaloids, which are extremely uncommon in nature
- These compounds are related to flavonoids, which are known for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and may have potential health benefits
- The rare compounds were mainly found in the leaves of certain strains, showing that cannabis chemistry can vary significantly depending on the strain
- The findings suggest cannabis is even more chemically complex than previously understood, beyond the well-known cannabinoids
- One key takeaway is that parts of the plant often treated as waste, like leaves, could have meaningful scientific or medical value
- Overall, the study highlights new opportunities for discovering useful compounds in cannabis beyond THC and CBD

Highlights:

- Variety in exercise matters more than just doing more of the same. Mixing different types of physical activity is linked to a longer life.

- Large, long-term study: Researchers followed over 100,000 people for 30+ years to analyze exercise habits and longevity.

- Lower risk of death: People who regularly did a variety of activities had a significantly lower risk of dying compared to those who stuck to one type.

- There’s a “sweet spot”: Benefits increase up to a point, but doing more and more exercise doesn’t keep adding extra benefits indefinitely.

- Takeaway: Instead of just increasing volume (like more running), it’s better to mix things up, for example combining cardio, strength training, and other activities.

Highlights:

- Scientists traced the origin of human eyes back to a very ancient “cyclops-like” ancestor, suggesting our two eyes evolved from a single central light-sensing structure.

- This ancestral eye wasn’t like modern eyes but a simple light-detecting organ, which over time split and specialized into the complex eyes seen in vertebrates today.

- The research shows that parts of today’s eye structure were repurposed from this primitive system, rather than being built entirely from scratch.

- Findings help explain how key features of vision evolved step by step, offering new insight into the evolutionary history of the retina.

- Overall, the study highlights how complex organs can evolve by modifying simpler ancestral structures, rather than appearing suddenly.

Highlights:

- The benefits of intermittent fasting may come more from refeeding (when you start eating again) than from the fasting itself

- The body “resets” and rebuilds during this transition, improving metabolism

- Repeated cycles of fasting and refeeding seem to drive the health and lifespan effects

In lab studies (worms), these cycles significantly increased lifespan

- This is early research, so it shows a possible mechanism, not proven results in humans
