You don't need to turn everything you enjoy into a career or a project or something impressive. Sometimes you can just make a thing because making the thing was fun.

download undertalemodtool and force yourself to change 1 line of dialogue. Load your Data.win -> Find -> Search In Code -> small bit of the sentence you want to edit -> Change it around -> Save -> See it in game. Just do that. go make something that's yours.

• then the final text block has "/% which closes it
• ^1 is used for pauses, the number is used for how long the pause is.
• then you end with c_talk_wait(); and boom that's the entire thing.

ALSO did you know that Toby Code allows you to easily add different sprites onto face sprites for a specific character while they talk? ^(and he only used for Susie's spikey ribbon that one time?) yeah. it took me like 5 minutes to add it for Break 4. Check it. cough.

u/j5erikk gave me the idea to add teas, so I did. They will be taking exactly as much credit as they want to. This is like 60% of what they wanted, right? ^((that's a passing grade!))

It was pretty easy, only took like 6 hours, which is pretty brisk compared to making a cutscene. Y'know what wasn't easy? Putting a second shop in a shop.

The trick though, is simple. I call it "if statements", it's how we got Balatro. I got 4 more joker's gold stickered today. That's not relevant actually.

cause i need help for making Breaks with Ralsei! Effectively, the idea is that Kris and Ralsei can now go to the Cafe for Breaks. Could do a couple. Could do 6. Could do a dozen. I just need words worth telling. AND THOSE COULD BE YOURS! I will credit you if I use your idea, but I reserve the right to change words around.

If you wanna contribute, you could write a script, or even just a general idea, like "Ralsei gives a pie he made to Kris after remembering it's their favorite food from that quiz in Chapter 3". I will animate things if needed, and then shove it into the game.

I thought this was like, 30 seconds. ^(Turns out it's slightly more then that.) I discovered a trick to speeding up changing this over to the next update. I call it "locking in". Took like, 30 hours. I had university. I wrote 2x 6 page essays. ^(one had to be about how great AI is. lil tip from me to you, IT ISN'T-)

Despite this taking about the same effort as part 2, I got it done a lot faster. I genuinely feel like I'm improving a lot more at modding as I'm doing this! I've been noticing things Toby adds to his cut-scenes and just sprinkling them in more. ^(More is more, right?)

I also hope the writing still feels in-character. At least, it matches how I see the characters, which probably tells you exactly what you think it does. I take a lot of pride in trying to write in a Toby-ish style while keeping the pacing feeling right, so feel free to BRUTALLY hurt my feelings if you think I missed the mark.

^(I kinda thought it was a sign of weak writing to have an anime-like romance thing. But then I remembered the chapter we're in. I can be as tsundere as I want.)

Also, yes, this does permanently change the party order for the rest of the game (...outside of battles). HOWEVER I coded it in a way where if you save, then uninstall the mod, things will be restored correctly without your input. If anyone has any bugs with this, please tell me. ^(Please.)

I HAVE COMPLETED PART 3!!

...I completed it about an hour before Toby updated DELTARUNE.

So yeah. It doesn't work anymore.

It took me like 2 days to port the mod from version 0.0.243 to 0.0.247, and now the game's on 0.0.250. Probably up by the weekend. Idk.

In my frustrations I just drew this pencil slop in 2 hours. (Or I digitized this mouse slop?? I drew this with my mouse. you can't tell) It's the first fan art of my own mod. That's allowed because I'm a fan of my own work.

I also included a textbox from Part 3! I finally learned how to do the little face portraits. The code behind it is held together with Hopes And Dreams, but it works.

Part 3 won't be as yaoi as Part 1 or 2. It's more like "Part 2.5". I've spent a lot of time doing backend work and figuring out whether all the stuff I want to add later is actually possible.

Honestly, it might be fun to make this a weekly thing. Every week I pick my favorite community suggestion, add it to the mod, do that for like six breaks, and then have them all lead into a cool ending, which would be a lot of work, but I got hands to throw.

im writing this at 1 am.

i keep seeing the argument that "transfem ralsei is influenced by patriarchal, binary gender roles," and every single time i hear it, i wither a little.

i know what people mean by it. i really do. but this is a line of reasoning that has been used against trans people for decades. the idea that being trans is somehow an attack on gender nonconformity, that transitioning is "giving in" to gender roles, or that trans people should just "be themselves" instead of "reinforcing stereotypes." i grew up hearing that argument online, and even from people i knew personally. it was demeaning then, and it's still demeaning now.

so seeing that exact idea treated as a morally righteous argument in this discussion is exhausting and generally hostile.

a transfem ralsei interpretation is not saying, "every feminine boy is secretly a girl." it's saying, "i think this specific character's story may eventually go in that direction." those are completely different claims.

you can disagree. you can think the evidence isn't convincing. that's fine. but saying the interpretation itself is patriarchal or rooted in binary gender roles feels uncomfortably close to rhetoric that has historically been aimed at actual trans people.

there's evidence for if ralsei were to change his gender identity, it would be him being transfem. here's a compilation of the ones i found when delving into this:

• the princess dress scene: ralsei's excitement over trying on the princess outfit feels meaningful, rather than just a one-off gag. Not just that he's wearing a dress, but that he likes being called a princess.
• being called "princess" by flowery: The title comes up repeatedly, and those moments seem to strike something deeper than simple embarrassment.
• "artemisia" in ralsei's title: artemisia is a flower genus associated with women's health and named after artemis, a female goddess, who is the goddess of transitions among other things. why else would Toby go out of his way to choose specifically this flower out of thousands of others?
• lost girl motif: ralsei is the only male-presenting character associated with the "lost girl" theme.
• what ralsei likes about himself: when talking positively about his appearance, ralsei highlights things like his face and voice, both of which are presented in distinctly feminine ways. we also wears makeup. it's not just that he presents feminine here, it's that the guy with obvious self-worth issues deliberately likes the feminine parts of himself
• ace attorney cosplay ACTs: Ralsei's cosplay ACTs have him dress as two different female characters.

another point that comes up a lot is that using she/her for ralsei is supposedly equivalent to using he/him for kris.

i don't think those situations are comparable. at all.

for the record, i use he/him for ralsei because that's what the game currently uses. i believe ralsei will eventually transition to specifically a trans woman, but currently, i don't feel comfortable going out of my way to use pronouns for someone without the clear go-ahead. if the game ever changed that, i'd switch immediately.

back to my second point. i think people who use she/her for ralsei are NOT acting out of the same motivation as people who insist on calling kris "he."

misgendering kris means rejecting an identity that the game explicitly establishes. it mirrors the way real nonbinary people are often treated, which is why it carries that baggage.

using she/her for ralsei comes from an ENTIRELY different place. the people doing it generally believe ralsei will eventually realize he's trans. they're not trying to reject the character's identity. they're trying to be preemptive in accepting of what (they believe) that identity will be.

maybe it's clumsy, maybe it isn't. but i don't think it's comparable to intentionally disregarding an explicitly established gender identity that said person is confident in, like with kris.

i've seen people argue that predicting a trans person's "future" pronouns before they're ready could out them or pressure them, and that's a completely valid concern in real life.

but ralsei is fictional.

there's no family to out ralsei to. no classmates. no friends who will suddenly start treating him differently. none of those real-world harms can actually happen. because of that, what matters here is the motivation behind the idea, and that motivation here is overwhelmingly acceptance, not rejection, and definitely not bigotry.

at the end of the day, i wish people would focus on the evidence, which is objectively present, instead of treating the idea itself as morally suspect and disregarding it outright.

if you don't think ralsei is trans, that's completely fine. debate in good faith, go right ahead. prep for chapter 6 when toby has ralsei turns to the camera and say "i am a transgender woman" after getting fritzed his trans allegories weren't working for 7 years

but saying that a transfem interpretation is inherently patriarchal, binary, or anti-gnc is horrible to me, because it's an argument that echoes rhetoric a LOT of trans people like myself have spent years hearing directed at ourselves, and i wish people would stop saying it outright.

god im writing this instead of making ralsei and kris kiss some more. i should get back to that

This is Part 2 of my mod that adds a brand new ACT to the Pink Fight. Assuming you exhaust all the ACTs and accept Ralsei, this is the scene that plays after the battle.

This took MUCH longer than the first part, mostly because I had to learn a bunch of new things, as well as make all the new animations myself.

All up, I've probably dropped 90-100 hours into this project (I was on university teaching break over the past two weeks!), and I do intend to keep going. Though... I am back at uni now.

This adds a new optional ACT with Ralsei that plays out over 10 turns and gradually escalates from normal battle dialogue into something more personal.
