Any tips on how to paint over a decal?

Any tips on how to paint over a decal?

I am overhauling one of my first kits, which was a Lancaster bomber, and I want to transform it into a coastal command plane. Problem is that my decal set includes decals for the night bomber only - so without any white stripe. Is there a way to paint some white over the dark blue? If yes, how should I proceed?

Reposting here cuz it was removed from r/modelmakers for some reason

This post has been removed from another community, and I honestly don't know why. I've asked the mods but they were not available. I wasn't planning on reposting it here but here we are.

Edit: the reason for the ban was that "we are modelmakers, not historians". Which, of course, is untrue. Many people build and paint models and dioramas due to their connections with history; some of the answers I got on that post before it got deleted were a proof of that. I also noted that no warnings nor redirections to another subreddit as been made. I am not here to trashtalk on another community's modding team, I am just surprised by the arbitrary nature of their rules, which might seem restrictive to me.

Can I repost a publication from another community here? Or is it against the rules?

So I posted a diorama on the subreddit r/modelmakers and I wanted to repost it here, since this community is smaller and is usually ready to help beginners. But is it against the community's rules? Or is it not well perceived?

Is this diorama historically accurate?

Could a skirmish between the SS and the US Army involving a Panther have happened around St. Vith (current Belgium) around 1944/ early 1945?

I'm not sure if this is the right community for this kind of posts, but it fits the rules so...
