Tamiya Panel Liner help...

Hi everyone,

I just have a question about panel liner and what you use to remove it.

I clear coated this Tamiya glossy. I'm going to add the decals and then wanted to add panel liner. I've never used it before and wanted to ask...

Once you put the panel liner on how long do you wait until you remove the excess? and what tools (qtip, paper towel, etc) and solution (water/x20/soap etc) do you use to remove it?

Thanks...

Edit: thanks everyone. My local art store has the stuff you all mentioned so I'll be grabbing it tomorrow. I'll do the underside of the model first and see how it goes. Thanks for all the replies.

My first Tamiya, 1/48 Messerschmitt BF109E-4

Finally finished. Really enjoyed making this one. It was my first Tamiya (usually stay with Airfix) and first attempt with weathering powders and using gloss/matt varnishes.

One downside I found (halfway through the process) was airfix usually give you the option to choose landing gear up or down, I assumed this was a universal thing across all brands. Apparently this kit only allows you to have the wheels down. I skipped the instruction step for assembly of the gear as I knew I wanted it in flight. The problem came at the end when I realised the wheels are cut too thick to fit inside the wells. I had to sand them down and dispose of the metal leg on the inside of the "flaps". Therefore they dont sit flush against the fuselage but you live and learn.

I also didn't stick strictly to the correct decal scheme, as this livery should have a red heart on the cowling but I preferred the look of the blue emblem. The white band around the rear fuselage I also painted on myself instead of using the sticker, which I think adds to the look.

I used Tamiya x22 gloss after painting to then add a grey pin wash for panel lines, which didn't really work, so I then used AK ultra matt to deaden the paint down and my god does it make it matt! Just one coat completely killed the shine, a little too much for my liking, so applied the weathering powders and then sealed the model with a mix of about 60:40 Matt to Gloss varnish.

Some of you may remember I had an issue with this kit where I lost the back half of the canopy and was begging for spares. Managed to get a new sprue from Tamiya for £12.99 plus shipping, arrived within 4 days.

This is my 7th build in a year after leaving the hobby around age 13. Let me know what you think and any tips to improve!

Thank you guys. What a nice community we have here :)

Painting and Weathing sequence help

I decided to finally build a model that had been sitting around for around 5 years, Meng's Merkava Mk.3d Early. I haven't built a model, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience as slow and as frustrating as it has been. I've spent lots of money of different paints, tools, mud and whatnot. Yet, I cannot seem to find a definitive sequence in how I should be doing everything.

I have not been the most happy with how the suspension, tracks and whatnot looks, but it's ok and mostly going to be hidden anyways. But I am ready to finish this up or actually make meaningful progress that makes me feel good about this first model. I took a reference model from some warthunder camo design I saw and am running with it, it's a two tone desert camo using a desert yellow base and a brown camo patch. I have a matte varnish, haven't used it at all, some say I should have used it already some say wait, and other say to use a gloss varnish. My first goal is to go back and do a pinwash, on everything other than the suspension, wheels, etc, just the turret and the hull. I have been all over the place, so I am taking a step back and trying to get the hull and turret correct. I only have acrylics paints to work with no enamels or oils, I have a thinner, retarder, graphite sticks, some plastic putty, diorama mud, a weathering master (makeup pallette kind of thing), graphite sticks and dry pigment powders along with the a binder for them, I have also picked up some proper stuff for decals, I have only done a few and they turned out... less than satisfactory with just water.

Tldr: I would really appreciate some guidance and direction to help finish/correct this model.

Jagdpanther with zimmerit

Probably my best build so far. The zimmerit was no joke, hours and hours of application since I did it by hand with putty. The decals were extra difficult to apply over the rough texture but eventually made it work for the cross, completely destroyed the numbers in the process though. Threw in some shell impacts and even some .50 holes in the side skirt. Overall very pleased. Let me know what you think!

Aerocraft 1/32 Miles M.52

The Aerocraft 3D printed Miles has now been completed. This was supposed to be the first plane to break the sound barrier, but the British government canceled it before it could fly. Miles was instructed to send their data and research to Bell, well would use it to help them with the X-1, which then broke the sound barrier in 1947.

This is Aerocraft's first full kit. It went together well, and everything was painted with various Alclad shades. Please let me know what you think.

1/72 Airfix Tiger Moth

Hi,

Just wanted to share my Tiger Moth that I just completed. I’ve been doing larger aircraft mostly and this has been a really fun little model to build. Hope you like it. Constructive feedback is very much welcomed

Ki-61 hien - complete -Clean build(Hasewawa 1:48)

Finished this Ki-61 recently. Aside from a pin wash, I intentionally avoided any weathering to achieve a polished, high-performance look. Here it is alongside my older Hayate build.

Tiger P Completed Assembly

So, first Amusing Hobby 1/35 kit i've built.

Sadly after importing it, the box and the lowerhull came utterly deformed and destroyed and had to remade it alongside the Zimmerit.

Pros: superb detail and fitting, photoetched included, barrel in one piece.

Cons: rope towcable, instructions not very clear sometimes.

Others: snap in tracklinks need to be sanded individual for a good fit. Easily snapped out

Now on the storage stuff: should i put something else? Wanna add some tarps, jerrycans and more tools but the real life model didnt have much on it

Will definetly try to do more Amusing Hobby kits, for less than 40€ id say its totally worth the price.

Have a good Day!!

I know this isn't much, but I have no one else to complain to that will understand.... Can anyone guess the kit?

These windows to the world, with the custom holographic film applied, were the biggest pain in my backside. I dare say, more frustrating than PE parts.
