Frame ideas?

Frame ideas?

I bought this ages ago and it’s still hidden away because I wasn’t keen on the framing suggestion from my local shop (plain black box, cream mat). I’m sure I can get him to be more creative but I just need to arm myself with ideas. Any suggestions?

CCTV remote access in apartment building?

I live in on the top floor of a three storey apartment building. I'm authorised to check the CCTV but I can only access it in the "comms room" where the base unit is connected to a screen. There is an old router in there but no internet connection - a previous owner connected it in his own name, and possibly using his apartment as the address - the woman I spoke to at Aussie BB could not find evidence of a previous connection for just the building (only apartments) - which I find a bit odd given the router sitting there, still connected... but OK.

Anyway. I want to be able to access on my phone because unfortunately I have to check it more than I'd like and it's a pain in my bottom. So inquired re plans, and even basic business (because I'd do it properly through strata) plans come in at $99pcm. Which seems like a lot just for the CCTV. I'm also curious about how I access it from my phone if the connection is downstairs through lots of brick walls and concrete floors (I might be completely off base on this being an issue - but I feel like it is??)

I guess my main question is - would I possibly be better off using my home internet connection, and what would I need to do to set the CCTV unit up to connect to that (if I'm able to)? Or are there other options that are better that I'm not aware of..? Thanks for your help!

Bosch pro d-tect 200C - reviews?

Has anyone used on of these?

It’s pretty far outside my budget but so is the repair job I’ve just set myself up for. I nicked a wire that was in an unusual spot over the weekend, and the sparky is giving me options on how to proceed with the repair (apartment, concrete, stupid).. If option A doesn’t work things start to get more interesting - there was a lot of discussion around what else might be in the walls.

Also I’ve been going round in circles with strata and various trades over water ingress for two years now, and this has a leak detection function so I feel like that has potential to save me some frustration and get things moving forward…

BUT, also, it’s fifteen hundred bucks. With super mixed reviews.

Aus Citizen (and former Greek Finance Minister) Yanis Varoufakis

Mostly sharing this for the highly relevant comment re interest rates around 1:03:40 (using interest rates as a lever to combat cost-push inflation will ruin the economy and cause enormous pain).

However - I love this guy and think this whole interview is worth a listen. Europe focused and some of his ideas around Amazon etc are probably a bit kooky (and do him quite a lot of damage I expect) - but I’ve always enjoyed listening to him. He’s interesting and articulate and thought-provoking.

Perth strata cleaners? (also - anyone got a list of cleaning duties?)

Looking for recs for strata cleaning companies in Perth if anyone has any? Our cleaner has just... not been doing his job (I've raised directly and through strata manager - it's gotten worse if anything). So, I'm on the hunt for a new one - asked strata manager to get quotes but he hasn't been able to (apparently). Small apartment block central Perth.

Also does anyone have a list of what their cleaner does? We have one that was created before my time - but I think it was just made up by one of the owners - the cleaner says he never officially agreed to it but hasn't provided an alternative (ridiculous but I've given up at this point - just need to start over with someone new).

How do recruiters get paid..?

I’ve recently started a (state) public service role on a casual contract through a recruiter. My understanding is my rate should be equivalent to the lowest hourly rate for that level plus 25% - mine is approx $2 less ph than that. The rate changed a couple of times throughout the recruitment process (I’m desperate for a job right now so have put up with a lot of nonsense). Does the recruiter take a % of my rate? I have worked in similar roles previously where the rate was exactly as expected - so wondering if there are different rules for different recruiters..?

Gumboots - high arch?

Hi all. I have traumatic memories of inebriated friends pulling the wellies off equally inebriated me at Glastonbury circa 2004 before I attempted sleep, because I could not get the fkn things off myself. Over the years I’ve realised my struggle to get some boots on and off is probably high arch related.. but, I could definitely do with some tall wellies for winter walks to the office (no more opting to wfh if it’s pissing down sadly..).

Anyone else struggle with this? Reccies?

Insurance brokers

Any recommendations? In WA but I don’t think it matters.. we have commercial tenants so need to use a broker. Tbh I’m struggling to figure out any difference based on the marketing spin I get through inquiring directly… it’s our biggest cost so trying not to fuck it up.

A reminder that taxes pay for things you benefit from..

Reading half the posts on this sub you would think that taxes are equivalent to profits - a big evil corporation taking your hard-earned.

A reminder that we live in a society (not just "the economy") and taxes pay for things that are collective goods - health, defence, schooling, infrastructure, food safety, construction standards.... etc etc). The job of the government is really to protect (even enhance) the general standard of living for people in this country. You can definitely argue that spending priorities should be different, or there's waste in the system.. but imagine living somewhere where none of these things were taken care of..... or moving even further towards a US-style system where one unlucky health issue can bankrupt you.

Please try to consider all the ways you benefit from public spending, and also realise that the tax system needs to change as the population ages, inequality increases and the future of work (and income tax) changes rapidly. Taxing "wealth" is the only approach that can work.

Better to be prepared for a future where a smaller income tax base is paying for an expanded post-retirement population (definitely) or where AI has decimated half our jobs (entirely possible, even if only for an adjustment period), rather than react in a panic (see covid, oil shock, etc..).

A more equal society, with fewer extremes at either end, is better for everyone - even the rich, who benefit from living in a place with more stability, less crime, and likely more opportunity - people who feel safe and secure are more likely to be entrepreneurial and take risks because there is a safety net. Stop being such a bunch of short-sighted selfish kentz.
