First-time building, what can I do to reduce costs?

Basically the title. Me and my wife plan on building a house in the next few years. I am not sure if I could handle being my own GC, but I am capable of completing many other aspects myself, such as interior painting, baseboard/trim work, installing light/plumbing fixtures (not rough-in), and installing flooring, but I have read that doing things yourself can sometimes cause issues with your builder and loaner.

We really have no idea how all this works. My job allows me plenty of time to spend multiple days per week at the build if needed. The house will be built in a rural, unzoned area. Could I do all these things, or could it cause issues?

Injury in my Rookie year, feel like an idiot

Just want to vent a bit and see if anyone has had something similar happen to them.

Was on a fire scene and made a stupid mistake (won’t state what it was for anonymity). Working a structure for a mutual aid and ended up breaking my hand. My captain says it’s partially his fault for not keeping a better eye on safety (there was a particular hazard involved we were all made aware of) but I feel like an idiot because it was totally avoidable.

My captain and crew I was with doesn’t seem upset about it. I finished out the incident with my broken hand and shift ended a couple hours later. Everyone I’ve talked to or who has reached out to me seems to genuinely want me to get better, and I’m getting the lighthearted jokes a deserve.

I just feel like I’ve let my crews down by making a stupid mistake. I’m 6 months in and haven’t had anyone complain about me yet and always receive good evaluations.

Bahia in Bermuda Lawn

Located in the Austin, TX area.

I have a small bermuda lawn, sprinklered appropriately and fertilized with a local fertilizer for the area 2 times per year. I mulch when I mow and mow at about 1.5 inches.

A large part of my lawn has been overrun by Bahia. I have tried mowing 3 times per week and applied MSM Turf as labeled. None of that seems to be working. What can I do to get rid of the Bahia?

I am hesitant to use glyphosate and risk harming the grass. More fertilizer? Bagging? A different chemical? What should I do?
