Honestly, always been a big fan of this spine design on Godzilla. It makes him look like a mountain. The semi-realism mixed with the fantasy of his design is so cool.

Little detail I noticed in the 2014 film

I think there is a deeper meaning with the people going silent whenever godzilla appears that's more than just a cool dramatic thing to build tension.

"The arrogance of man thinking nature is in our control" implies man is full of itself and essentially thinks it's on the top of every living thing on the planet. Until the mutos show up, that's when humanity feels finally weakened by a beast far greater in power. But we have the ability to fight it, injure it, even for a temporary amount of time. However, the mutos obviously have an emp weapon that is of great disadvantage to humans. The most humans can do is scream for their lives when they see the mutos.

However, Godzilla garners a TOTALLY different reaction from humans. Silence, no words. From serizawas speechlessness seeing him for the first time on the ship to the footstomp on the airport to the kids seeing him rise on the golden gate bride to him rising to fight the male muto in the San Francisco. It goes deeper than just another monster that's stronger than humanity. Godzilla is on top of the food chain here. There is no one above him, he's an alpha. Humans simply can't comprehend seeing a top creature on the planet that's not THEM. Humanity loses all their ego at the sight of godzilla being face to face with the king. They're helpless. And it's almost like whenever he does show himself, we are almost "bowing" in respect to him by being quiet. Despite everything, at the end of the day , he is an animal. But using the silent reaction from the humans, he's silently portrayed as a god. An immovable object, a force of nature that's you can't stop, all you can simply do is watch and wait for his arrival. Godzilla is on a realm of his own. He's not simply "another threat," but more like the judge of the earth itself that has intentions you won't understand.

All of this is further elevated by his presence, sound design, and his general design. Humanity is simply too insignificant for Godzilla, as if they weren't already in the presence of other titans. Every time he is on screen, he is presented with awe and glory that you yourself, the viewer, is speechless too. It's his title of "king" shown in a more visual or poetic fashion. The big theme of insignificance in this movie kind of becomes a horror element whenever the titans show themselves, especially godzilla.

I don't care anymore. I love the dark aesthetic.

Crucify me, but the dark colour scheme goes hard.
