2016 VW Golf – dealer stopped stamping paper service book?

I have a late-2016 Golf that has been serviced annually at VW. The original service book was stamped every year up to 2023, but the 2024 and 2025 services weren’t stamped.

I distinctly remember taking the book in and being told servicing was now recorded digitally and they weren’t really using the paper book any more. I’ve already found a Marshall VW health-check email proving the car was at the dealer on 11/11/2024.

Has anyone else with a pre-May-2017 VW that originally came with a paper service book had the VW dealer stop stamping it and rely on the Digital Service Schedule instead? Were you able to get a complete printout from VW when selling? Thanks.

Coming off Octopus Tracker: calculate your personal break-even rate, not just today’s price

For anyone wondering whether to leave Tracker, I don’t think comparing one day’s rate with “the standard tariff” tells you enough. The useful calculation is your own break-even rate, including standing charges and annual usage.

I’ve just moved from Tracker September 2025 v1 to Octopus’s 12-month fix at 26.44p electricity and 7.59p gas. Based on my usage and the different standing charges, Tracker would need to average below roughly 26.71p for electricity and 7.44p for gas over the year to beat it.

Tracker is currently 31.83p electricity today and 31.96p tomorrow, with gas at 8.93p today and 9.24p tomorrow.

The really important bit is gas: it should be consumption-weighted, not treated as a simple 12-month average. Cheap summer days count for relatively little if most of your gas is used during an expensive winter.

That doesn’t mean fixing will definitely win. It means I’ve swapped an uncertain outcome for a known one at rates Tracker now needs to fall below consistently. Also remember that Octopus currently prevents you rejoining Tracker for nine months after leaving, so it is worth doing the household-specific calculation before jumping.
