Two years and a wedding later and we're still not convinced. Going on the record with Daily Mail was a bold choice. I think everyone involved in this the football star and the Pop Singer fall in love Hallmark movie business merger sucks at their jobs, even Tree Paine. Everything Travis and Taylor do is performative and weird. They don't even pretend to live together and Taylor refuses to write a proper love song about the man she claims is the love of her life. Taylor's team seems to be stuck in the past where orchestrated pap walks and a few outings together here and there will do. And Travis's team like to brag and accidentally give things away in the process. Travis's managers said in a 2024 NYT interview

A member of Travis's PR agency proudly talked about arranging fake relationships.

This story of casually being like "hey, can we use my dog? Sure! Oh, and she fits in so well with the brand, what a happy coincidence" is so much bullshit. He says they got Wendy about a year ago. The Hilfiger shoot happened in April. The start of the process to get to that point would have been about a year ago. Travis expressed frustration that they weren't able to keep Wendy under wraps, presumably because her surprise debut as Travis and Taylor's dog was supposed to make headlines. Wendy was always a part of this campaign. Taylor and Travis didn't adopt a dog. They shopped for an aesthetically pleasing dog that would be part of their brand. Not saying Travis doesn't genuinely love Wendy. It's the calculated dog shopping as part of promoting his career that's gross. Adopt Don't Shop!

The critic and his review that inspired the song Mean is here. The review he wrote is about the Grammys as a whole and discusses several artists besides Taylor. The other artists he criticized didn't write a song about the critic or have the the CEO of their label defend them (that CEO was Scott Borchetta, the guy Taylor later encouraged her Swifties to attack when he was no longer useful to her). The overreaction to the reception of Taylor's performance that night was because her team was faced with a 'the empress has no clothes' moment that needed to be rectified.

Taylor went about attacking this particular critic with the song Mean as well as talking about him in articles and interviews. There were other critics who were unkind that she ignored. The attack on this particular critic was enough to signal to them it's best to keep quiet unless they want America's Sweetheart to talk shit about them for years too. The PR tactic became "Taylor's not the best singer but she's a songwriter and storyteller who speaks to a generation." Later that year Speak Now was released with the questionable claim that Taylor wrote it entirely on her own. This is why Taylor Swift has been respected in the industry. It's not because of her talent. It's because of her and her team's ability to manipulate the public and control the narrative with her innocent white girl who gets spunky when the meanies are mean to her routine.

The Tragedy is scraping her hand. The Triumph is quickly changing and getting on stage to perform with a boo-boo. Starring Taylor Swift, a true heroine (this time with an E). She wasn't late. She WASN'T LATE.

External validation is a helluva drug. Mom and dad raised her to live for the applause and attention and she's been hooked ever since.

Taylor is a terrible actor, so I think this is genuine emotion she's feeling here.

We saw from the Disney Eras doc that Andrea honestly believes her daughter is a musical genius. Like she's in total awe of Taylor playing basic chords and singing off-key. In the doc Andrea talked about her mom (acclaimed opera singer Marjorie Finlay) and how she'd feel insecure because she didn't have any musical talent herself. Andrea claims that the talent skipped a generation. It's obvious that Taylor wasn't a born musician or singer, but apparently Andrea has deluded herself into believing this was the case. Then there's Scott's email with the relentless complaining and bitching and bragging about all the things he's done to make his daughter a star. He's probably harped on the sacrifices made on Taylor's behalf almost her entire life.

Taylor was fed lies and stories to tell the press starting at a young age and the lies just kept coming. Her personhood has been wrapped up in her brand since she was a kid. Is it possible she's come to believe the lies? Like in her NYT interview she seemed to truly believe her teenage songwriting was on par with the pros she was working with on Music Row. Plus, there's the immense pride she displays after performances that are awful to mediocre at best. There are some performances that are so bad that she looks insane with her smug self-satisfied face looking out at the audience afterwards. Like girl, you sounded like shit, why are you looking like you killed it?

Between Andrea's persistent praise, Scott's persistent guilt tripping, and Taylor possibly being tone deaf (not kidding, it would explain why she can't hear how bad she is), Taylor just might be living in a fantasy world where she's an exceptionally talented songwriter, musician and singer who's earned everything she has when the reality is she should be feeling imposter syndrome after all these years of spending time with musicians with actual talent that far surpasses her own. She might honestly believe her parents made sacrifices on her behalf because she was this amazingly gifted child rather than pursuing fame through their child for the sake of their own egos and their love of money. Not that it even matters. The Swifts have become wealthy enough to continue to happily live in their narcissistic delusions.

This show (Secret Life of the American Teenager) is classic camp that millenials kept on the air for 5 seasons. Did Taylor watch it? Likely, at least parts of it anyway. Does she remember the July 4 storyline? Who knows. She did choose to get married on July 3, thereby avoiding the more controversial date (according to the show) of July 4. The point is, this exists and the Gaylors have been fed. Taylor created this parasocial mess and she will never escape them.
