Mansfield park is less popular but is it fair
Mansfield was my first Austen in the 90s. I discussed Austen with a friend in the 2010s and i told him i read an Austen but couldn't recall name of book. I recalled they did some acting in it. Well i've re-read the novel and i was surprised by the ending i'd forgotten so much. I still hoped Crawford would show he was loyal after all and Mary would marry Edmund. But i was reading one of the criticisms was what was so bad about the play. Crawford and Miss Bertram were openly flirting in front of her fiance, and we know how that ended. I think Mary got a tougher break being made responsible for her brother's behavior. But in reality the Crawfords deeply compromised the Bertram family. But yea of the Austen's i've read this is the darkest so far.
