Locals, is the Wi-Fi always slow at night?
I am visiting China and it’s almost always so at night even when I turn off my VPN… Me and my wife even try to stream movies from Chinese websites and it’s always buffering at night too.

I am curious how much locals get paid in China? So tell me your Salary, job title and age.
I am an American who is married to a Chinese woman. We live in the states but we visit China 4 months a year. I have many expat friends and acquaintances and most are stuck in china. They don’t love living in china but they don’t have options. They were not successful back home and many have families now. They are afraid if they went back home the couldn’t support their new family. They would only qualify for a warehouse job or maybe for a fast food job. I feel like the longer you sat in china the harder it is to get a job back home.
I have one friend who has been in china for 8 years. He has had multiple girlfriends in china and never had one back in the states. He Al’s told me he misses the weather back home ,his family and the food so much. He lost his job in china last year. So now he is stuck in Thailand waiting to get a visa or a job in china again. His parents want him back home but he feels like a failure back home.. He said he refuses to work at an Amazon warehouse or to clean toilets. His last job was at doing marketing at a mobile gaming studio. He helped them market games to the west.
I know another dude from the UK who wishes he can take his mixed kids back to the UK. He can’t afford international school in china so they attend public school. He wants them to go to high school back in ui but he can’t survive in the uk financially. He teaches English under the table in china and makes enough to support his family. His kids love the UK when they visited and even his wife prefers it there.
I have a white female acquaintance who is also stuck because she is too poor to sponsor her husband to get a US green card. She is miserable in China but she sucks it up to be with him.
It’s crazy how 80 percent of the expats I know don’t really like china but are basically stuck. Is this something that is common these days?
Edit- It is crazy to me how many of them will brag to me about how much fun they have here but in reality they are coping. They just can’t make it back home.
I worked for HR block pre COVID and loved it. They had kick off parties and gave us a bunch of nice appetizers and Italian food before the season started. We also got a party at the end of the season too with raffles and catered food. The training was great and really hands on too and in person.
I came back to block this year and they got rid of all of that.. I felt like the TL are trained less now and mine was terrible.
Edit- I remember I loved working at HR block and I felt appreciated and cared about back then
I felt like I was a part of a great team and now I feel like it all went to shit
