AVIS price adjustment? two separate reservations cheaper than one for the same duration.

Hi, I have a one way rental reservation thats coming up with Avis for 4 days. Its for a pick up from Location A on Mon 5pm and returning it to a different Location B on Fri 5pm

I just checked and if I book two separate reservations for the same dates & times and for the exact same car type, its significantly lower than my reservation for the entire duration.

  • roundtrip reservation for 3 days from/to Location A (Mon 5pm thru Thu 5pm)
  • one way reservation for 1 day from A to B (Thu 5pm thru Fri 5pm)

the only drawback is I'll need to "return" the car at the end of 3 days on Thu and pick-up the same car again for one way rental for 4th day. Is there a way I can request Avis for price adjustment for one reservation of 4 days to match combined lower price of 2 separate reservations? That will save me hassle of going back & forth to the rental location and essentially keep the same car for 4 days as one reservation. thanks in advance!

last minute itinerary change. switch hotel location?

Hi, we are visiting Yellowstone mid-July. after spending 3 days (staying at West Yellowstone), we'll be driving to Grand Tetons the next day.

based on several reddit posts & feedback, we are thinking of changing our hotel for 3rd night to optimize driving around

  • Option 1: Move 3rd night to Cooke City hotel. After visiting Lamar Valley in the evening, we save ~2 hours driving back to West Yellowstone compared to 30 mins drive to Cooke City. Next morning head to Southern entrance/exit for GTNP
  • Option 2: Move 3rd night to Gardiner hotel. swap sequencing, visit Lamar valley in the afternoon and Mammoth in the evening for easy drive to Gardiner hotel. Next morning head to Southern entrance/exit for GTNP

does either of the options above provide better routing/advantages? or we are better sticking to our original itinerary of 3rd night at West Yellowstone? thanks in advance!

best SLC lounge: Amex Centurion, Delta A or Delta B if paying for a lounge visit

as the title says. I have a 3.5 hours layover at SLC flying Delta. I have Amex Platinum so I have complimentary access to all the 3 lounges Centurion and Skyclubs in both the terminals A & B. However I have two guests traveling with me and we’ll be paying for their lounge visit. its $50 per person for any of the three lounges.

  1. does any of these lounges provide better vegetarian/vegan friendly food options?
  2. any recommendations for which lounge overall is better bang for your buck?

thanks in advance!

West Yellowstone to Jackson - more scenic/wildlife drive? US-20 or US-191 (thru parks)

Hi, we are visiting Yellowstone National Park for the first time mid-July. After spending close to 3 days in Yellowstone, we would be driving to Grand Teton National Park and flying out of Jackson Hole.

  1. Between US-20 (thru Idaho) and US-191 (thru both parks), which drive is more scenic offering vistas, pullouts and also more chances of wildlife sightings?
  2. somewhat unrelated: heard that West Yellowstone entrance offers dedicated lane for those holding entrance/America The Beautiful pass. is that correct? Does GTNP entrances also offer such lanes?

thanks in advance!

flying out to SLC. seats on which side of the plane?

as the title suggests, for our upcoming Yellowstone & GTNP first trip in July, we are flying out of JAC for our flight to SLC. Have heard so much of awesome aerial views of The Tetons on approach to the Jackson Hole airport.

any suggestions seats on which side of the plane (side when you’re seated in those seats) would offer better views taking off from JAC? thanks in advance

suggestions: Yellowstone to Grand Teton - day and a half itinerary

Hi, we are visiting Yellowstone next month mid-July. Its a short visit and we’ll be spending 3D/3N in West Yellowstone and 1D/1N in Jackson before flying out from JAC next day afternoon 5pm.

  • Day 1 - Check-in into our West Yellowstone hotel around 5pm.
  • Day 2 & 3 - Cover Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, Tower Fall, Canyon Village areas of the park as much as possible in 2 days (northern loop)
  • Day 4 - Leave West Yellowstone early am. Visit Old Faithful, Geyser Basin and exit YNP and head to GTNP thru southern entrance (hwy 191), check-in Jackson hotel late afternoon
  • Day 5 - Depart JAC at 5pm

Questions:

  1. Any suggestions what area of Yellowstone NP we can get immediately started with for the remainder of Day 1 evening, before the sunset/9pm?
  2. Are there any tips/better recommendations for day 4 & 5 above? Looking to cover key highlights of GTNP in pretty much 24 hours we have from day 4 afternoon to day 5 afternoon? thanks in advance.

first timer to Yellowstone, which of the two itineraries help us maximize our visit?

Our group is finalizing very last minute, first visit to Yellowstone the 2nd half of July for 4 days. After all the research, we have narrowed down to two itineraries below.

  1. Arrive Jackson Hole Sat 4pm. Depart Jackson Hole Tue 5pm. 3 night stay at West Yellowstone (Sat, Sun & Mon). Explore Yellowstone for 2 full days/nights (Sun & Mon). Cover Grand Teton as much as we can on our way to Yellowstone on Sat and then again while heading back to JAC on Tue
  2. Arrive Bozeman Sat 1pm. Depart Jackson Hole Tue 5pm. 2 night stay at West Yellowstone (Sat & Sun). Explore Yellowstone for 48 hours (Sat evening thru Mon evening). Head to Jackson Hole for one night stay on Mon. Cover Grand Teton as much as we can on Tue before flying out

I definitely understand July is a peak season and all the transportation & lodging costs are super expensive. Hypothetically assuming that both these itineraries are costing us exactly the same, does one itinerary provide better experience/advantages over another? Thanks in advance!

first time visit to Niagara Falls (US side) - change itinerary from 2 days to 1 day?

Hi, we have a US northeast trip coming up in June. We'll be visiting Niagara Falls on US side & planning to do all the touristy things (Maid of the mist, Cave of the winds, Observation tower etc.), will have a rental car. We have an option to change our itinerary a bit as follows

  • current plan: arrive BUF Tue 10pm, 2 nights stay @ Niagara falls, depart BUF Thu 1pm
  • proposed change: arrive BUF Wed 11am, 1 night stay @ Niagara falls, depart BUF Thu 1pm

original plan of 2 nights was to have sufficient time to visit the falls. but after bit of a research, it seems that US side visit can be covered in 6 to 8 hours. With sunset times around 9pm in June, that should give us sufficient time on Wed & also couple of early morning hours on Thu before our 1pm flight. does this make practical sense? or its making for a very compressed, unrealistic itinerary? thanks in advance.
