[RE-RELEASE] Moon WiiVC Injector (GC/Wii/Homebrew Support)

Moon WiiVC Injector - Modernized Edition

Hey everyone!

I'd like to share a major modernization of a tool many of us know and love: the Wii/GameCube Virtual Console Injector for Wii U, originally created by TeconMoon and later improved by piratesephiroth.

Over the years, the classic injector started showing its age: built on .NET Framework 4.5 / WinForms, relying on extracting 40+ MB of legacy 32-bit binaries and Java wrappers to %TEMP%, and strictly Windows-only.

The mission of this Modernized Edition is to bring the injector into modern times: building it on modern technologies, squashing legacy technical debt, making it rock-solid and cross-platform (Windows, Linux, Steam Deck), and delivering a cleaner, faster experience.

Major Structural & Architectural Changes:

  • Modern Stack (.NET 9 + Avalonia UI + C# 13):
    • Completely migrated away from legacy Windows Forms to Avalonia UI. It runs smoothly on Linux (Wayland and X11) and modern Windows (10/11) with a native, responsive desktop feel.
  • Modern MVVM Architecture:
    • Presentation logic is separated using CommunityToolkit.Mvvm. Operations are asynchronous and non-blocking, with safe build cancellation and dedicated live logging.
  • Elimination of Fragile External Tools (Pure C#):
    • Replaced multiple external command-line utilities and scripts with clean, in-memory C# implementations:
      • High-performance NFS partition conversion (Nfs2Iso2Nfs) with memory pooling (ArrayPool).
      • Full in-process NKit unscrubbing (.nkit.iso / .nkit.gcz) without needing ConvertToISO.exe or Wine.
      • Native C# cryptographic patching for c2w and DOLs.
      • Native C# audio resampler and .btsnd generation (no external SoX needed).
  • True Standalone Single-File Executables:
    • No loose DLLs, no extra Resources/ folders, and no runtime installation required. Everything (including native Skia/HarfBuzz libraries and GameTDB data) is bundled into a single ~51 MB executable.
  • Pre-Flight Sanity Checks:
    • Automatically checks for required tools (Java, WIT) before you start, providing copy-paste commands if anything is missing so you don't wait on an injection only for it to fail at the end.

Features:

  • Wii Retail Injection: Supports .iso, .wbfs, .nkit.iso, and .iso.dec.
  • GameCube Retail Injection: Multi-disc support, Nintendont integration, and memory card configuration.
  • vWii NAND Titles & Homebrew DOLs.
  • Wii Classic Controller & GamePad Emulation.
  • Custom Assets: Drag-and-drop for icons, TV banners, GamePad DRC images, logos, and boot sound.
  • Smart Artwork Downloader: Fetches assets from the maintained cucholix/wiivc-bis repo with automatic cross-regional ID fallback.

Requirements:

  1. Java Runtime (JRE/JDK 17+): Needed for JNUSTool and NUSPacker (standard install on Windows, default-jre on Debian/Ubuntu, jre-openjdk on Arch).
  2. Wiimms ISO Tools (wit): Required on Linux (sudo apt install wit or sudo pacman -S wit).
  3. Keys: Wii U Common Key and Rhythm Heaven Fever Title Key (entered once in Settings).

We’d love your feedback!

Since this is a comprehensive modernization touching UI, cryptography, and image processing, community testing is essential:

  • How is it running on your setup? (Windows, Linux, Steam Deck / SteamOS)
  • Did you run into any quirks or bugs with specific game rips?
  • Any quality-of-life suggestions for future releases?

Please test it out, report any issues on GitHub, and share your thoughts!
